I like the concept Loren showed. I think it ends up being a nice balance between being a skilled driver and being a driver who shows up.

Maybe if it's not too labor intensive the current yearly points could be recalculated to show we mathematically impaired what will be different?

I could do a find/replace on the 9/6/4/3/2 in the current points table and get reasonable info for the top 5 positions pretty easily. But, the new system also awards points (more than 1) for 6th through 9th. To identify those finish positions would require looking at event results for each class at each event through the season. So, yeah... it's too labor intensive.

I could, however, do it for one or two classes. Maybe later tonight when if I'm bored and motivated.

Loren.

I know my diabolical plan to finish in top 3 for two classes will be probably demolished with the new system next year. :grin: BUT that's next season.

Having two totally different cars in the same class next year is very stimulating :lust:

I also know you don't have to worry about fixing the FASTIVA this week :thumbwink:

Could you do it for S1 and S2? Pretty please.

You are one of the very few people in FAST at the top of the food chain who haven't driven my RX8 or Vette. That must end. When you can borrow your wife's Prius to save gas and drive to Brooksville you will have to co-drive the Mazda in S2 in the pm (since I don't get up until 10am). Or at least take a couple runs in it. Everyone needs to know their competition. You obviously have skills. My skills have Bruce Wayned into the cave but I'll give you a shot.

My indifference to your goal of trophying in two classes cannot be understated, Doug. 8-)

But, I went ahead and mocked some classes up from the current season points. One of them is S0 (to represent a small class). S1 isn't much bigger, I wanted a representative Large Class, so I did M2. And I really, really like what I see. It brings the points closer, and brings some good drivers out of the basement and gives them a chance. M2 is currently all about the top 3, maybe 4 drivers. This brings it down to the top 7.

In the smaller class, it equalized the points A LOT. And it gave Ken a slight boost because his first place finishes were worth more (he finished ahead of more people). Pretty interesting arrangement considering there are 5 events left in the season.

Again, this is the 12-point method:
1st = #cars x 2 up to a max of 12
2nd = 1st minus 2
1 point less for each position below that to a minimum of 1

Thanks! I'm signed up for fun runs for in the 2nd half of the day, so I could do a couple runs in whatever you bring.

Thanks Loren that clears it up.

I think I did the conversion for the current year s1 and s2 correctly. I would move to 2nd in s1 and tied for 4th in s2 while hard working always showing up Eva and the other Doug would move solidly into 2nd and 3rd where they most likely belong.

Therefore I can find no fault in your logic. Benefits the hard workers who finish in the top 4 consistently for 9-12 events. And I agree my double is just to give real drivers a shot at their t shirt again :thumbwink: Not that I'm a threat to anyone at the moment. Tires or not to tires. That is the question?

Haven't checked in on the forum for a while. Here's my 2 cents -- Doug and I get T-shirts every year for showing up 100% of the time. We're happy with that. :D

:pointlaugh:

Well, we don't exactly give out class awards just for showing up. Looking at last season, for example, you can Doug scored 57 and 36 points respectively. That's a far cry from the 8 points total you'd have had for just showing up to 11 events (with 3 drops)! Your shirts were well-earned!

The proposed change (latest version) might actually make that more challenging for the folks at the top (that would be you!) because it awards more points to folks deeper in the field. So, you might have to work harder for it depending on how close the competition is in your class. (and how often they show up!)

I'm not "happy" that the "other Doug" beat me last time out. It's cool that he beat "both" of us AND I beat you:) I got only 1 point. Crap. So did you. One stinkin' point. Loser.

Next time I will drive better ;) I hope.

So, how is the new points system working? I know it has only been 2 events but it should so something different than the old 9-6-4-3-2-1 system

I asked Philip to develop an application to produce the season points output. (could have done it in Excel as before, but it's a lot of work) We'll be publishing points after tomorrow's event.

But, yeah, it seems to be having the desired effect. Points being awarded deeper in the field so that more people are "in the hunt" than just the top 3. Nobody's "running away" with a class early in the season. The "stranger who shows up out of nowhere and takes 1st place" will have a lesser effect on the points race, as well.

It's going to be interesting to watch it unfold. But, it's looking good after 2 events. And the first 3 events will be published tomorrow evening. :thumbwink:
