Thanks to the organizers for setting up this super fun course; and thank you Carracer for the pictures...how do you squeeze in seat-time?! There were some blazing times, but mine weren't among them. I did see improvement from a DNF (I knew I would miss that first gate out of the turn-around), to a 55 (spin)then a 52, and finally a 50 something.

To the guy in the grey Subaru with the yellow Z he is rebuilding - thanks for the tip on focusing being smooth after the turnaround. I feel like if I had two more runs I could have wrung out another couple seconds. But the weather held for the morning session and I had an awesome time as always.

Here are a few of my "slow motion" GoPro videos:

You're most welcome. I don't have near the experience and knowledge as a lot of guys and gals here but I will share what I can. Glad it helped.

Videos. First up is Sara's best run of the day.
https://www.facebook.com/joseph.vance.7 ... 866104429/
Sara's comment after watching the video was she needed to push harder.

Up second is my fastest raw run of the day.

I am posting this video because I think I got most of the run right, however I let Big Ron get into my head after this run, instead of focusing in the line, I focused on the cones and never got back to this time. Never let Big Ron into your head.

Philip, thanks for the pics.

Here's a video of my best run, I managed to finish 9th in M2 with a pretty deep field of cars.

Great course,I enjoyed it. Loved the wiggles going out, shoot, I felt fast through them for a fat car. I Just could not stay clean, dang that one cone...
My best run was dirty 45.479+1, but good enough to secure 2nd place of 9 in S3

Steve and I were competitive for the first two runs then he cleaned up his act and scored two much faster runs. Hands down he thumped me by a whole second under slightly drying conditions. All I can say is I had 4 clean runs in wet conditions on nearly bald 4 year old tires. Totally cannot complain. Steve had two clean faster runs on those same tires. We both had fun all the same. Didn't look like there were too many AWD cars in our heat either. S2 really lucked out today 'cause Steve and I made a darn good team in the RX8.

Oh you might want to rethink calling Steve out with a small wager. He is very easily motivated

Thanks all for another fun uneventful event. Loren and Ron got the results posted before I got home.

LOL. Always a pleasure, Mayor. We'll rematch in my car once I get it done. Unless of course, you want another go before then... I enjoy your cars, and the simple shock mods you've done to the Grey8 are quite nice, even on the old tires. Fun car! Too bad it was wet...

Thanks for the pics, Philip! And everyone else for the vids - always a chance to learn.

Matt, sorry about lunch. Shoulda set some aside rather than trust it would be ok behind the trailer. At least there was some salad for you (which was pretty good, really...).

The Focus RS has so many driver control settings it will take awhile to figure out how best to set it up for each autocross. I tried the Launch Control on my first run and did not like the feedback I got from the drivetrain. I ran all 4 runs on Track Mode with the first run with the stiffest damper setting. The car oversteered and pushed with that setting so I turned it to normal damping and Track Mode for the last three runs.
This was the first time the car has been autocrossed plus we had our tire pressure way too high because of an inaccurate tire gauge (our backup). When I pulled the car back after my 4th run I found our good tire gauge and checked the pressure: 57 psi in the front and 52 psi in the rears!

Not to worry. Most guys had a stiffy when you said it was clayed brand new. ( I've never clayed a car. Is that like punched out?) AND you both won the class. Get ready for the Vette next event in AWD Class. Be scared if I bring Steve on a wager.

Great course. Everybody and their mothers are so much faster than me. I see a couple major mistakes from myself but anybody that would like to analyze my video and give some feedback(yes I know I should've shifted to 3rd but I suck at heal toe) I would be greatful. M1 kicked my @ss.

Dan, I just watched your video. Ran through it once with the sound off, so didn't get the full effect. But, it looks REALLY smooth and pretty much on-line. Perhaps, like Sarah, you just need to "push harder"?

As for heel-toe, you really only need that on a turn where you need to be IMMEDIATELY in a lower gear and back on the gas. I learned to do it for track driving where you might need to downshift for "a turn", and you want to pull it off just right and without upsetting the car, but I almost NEVER do it in an autocross. At an autocross, you get to pick and choose where you want to shift, and on the rare occasion that you need to downshift, you can usually do it somewhere that you're not pressed to execute a perfect heel-toe.

For the turn-around, you should brake late, and sort of be "neutral throttle" for at least 1/3 of the way around. If you were on the gas earlier than that, it means you braked too much! So, brake late and "just enough", and do simple throttle-blip downshift as you enter the turn. Then you're back on the gas before you hit the exit apex.

I guess nobody mentioned that Event Results were posted on the website.

Now, Season Points have been updated, as well.

Very fun course this time, I enjoyed it. Had to settle for 5th in M2 again with my 44.05, I know there was a 43 our there, but couldn't pull it off. But I can feel myself improving with every event. My tires have been on the wear bars for the past 3 events or so, seems like it might be time to get some replacements. Still sorting out a few parts for my suspension work, but hopefully I'll get that installed soon. Really like to see what kind of difference it makes, if any over these stock shock/springs. LOL

I'll agree with Loren it was a nice run. I'm curious what the mistakes you saw were?
I did watch with sound. I'm thinking, again as Loren said, it's a push harder game here, and a matter of making a few 10ths here and there, rather than major mistakes costing major time.
For example, while the camera angle makes it hard to tell, if you compare car-cone position perspective in the "wiggles" to some of the other apexes, it looks like you could've been closer to cones in some places. Also, there were some places, like after the first right, and near the end of the wiggles, that you could've been on the gas sooner. You already mentioned the 2-3 shift before the turnaround. A tenth here and a tenth there tend to add up...

Was all the squealing tire noise coming from the front? Have you fiddled with any suspension stuff since the last time I took a spin? I'm wondering, if you did, if it brought back understeer? That would slow you down...
