That depends on the car. I can only keep it in 2nd at the dog track. Could have used 4th here. I was on the rev limiter in 3rd half way though the "straight"
You should have shifted, Jamie in a 5 speed Miata was using 4th on this course ;)

More shifting for me is just inviting trouble.

I think you should just start in 3rd gear. It would save you a lot of trouble.

Who has ever designed a course with a 7-foot wide gate?
PCA has at least one tighty to scrub speed at airport. Porsche people actually drive their cars flat out - unlike some others. 12" is enough.

Meh. I'll stick with my typical 12-15 foot minimum gate width. Every now and then, in certain places (like the Dog Track), I might do a 9-10 foot gate in some place that I really want people to be thinking that hard about being "right here". But, I rarely do less than 12'. I actually lean toward doing 15-20' gates except at Brooksville. The 12.5' block spacing there makes it too easy to do 12-15' gates, and they make sense there.

Not the best camera angle, still playing with it. My 2nd gear bounced off the rev limiter at 74 mph half way through the straight. This run I tried 3rd. It’s definitely a strange feeling essentially idling in 3rd at 70+ approaching a crossover. Didn’t realize how much the front end lifts under acceleration.

I seriously doubt the accuracy of your speedometer. Probably reads fast by, I'd bet, 10 mph... You know, all those gearing and tire diameter changes.

Cool video, though, as they all are. :thumbwink:

Man, y'all are missing the point.

Our insurance has a hard limit of 70 mph. Our contract with the airport (same as every other autocross club's contract with the airport) has a hard limit of 70 mph.

We do our best to try to abide by that, and we generally do. You guys aren't helping.

One angled 10ft gate coming up? Some of the fastest cars on slicks have crappy brakes but no speedo's!

I think the speedo was set to Kilometers per hour, should have been 46. :|
