FALL came two days late for some Sept 23 racers

Postby twistedwankel » Sun Sep 23, 2018 5:54 pm

The results have been up for an hour or more.
This was the first event out of the last 4 that I got all dry runs in the afternoon. :thumbwink:

My co pilot and I enjoyed the day. Had breakfast, coffee, read whole depressing paper then went to FAST xcross to run in the last heat of the day.

When you out weigh the competition by 1000lbs and have only 190hp to the crank of a 25 year old stock car you are happy when you finish 66th OA and a 61PAX. Even tho' last place by .2 second each of our runs was faster than the last and never hit a cone pleasing all the course workers with arguably the biggest hog there.

The course was enjoyable and "very learnable" improving by 2 seconds with more left on the table once I got the hang of sliding the LX instead of using the brakes. Oh Yeah.

Thanks to all for a great event. Glad I ran Open class instead of FN to boost the points for S3. I would actually have finished 2nd of 3 in R1 because they were new at it and only running 200wear 615k tires and no slicks:) Moby has alot of potential with bars and better rubber that I won't buy. Not alot off the line but once he got going it was great fun to drive.

So glad my car is still fast, but apparently I'm not... 4th place and outside of the trophies.

My car is still slow.

You pretty much signed up for that, didn't you? I mean, the alternative is "OMG, Mark Hackett beat me in my own car! How could that have happened?" You've seen him drive, right? :o

I have -2.1 up front now

Almost felt bad that I’d possibly get an easy 1st in MO this season, thanks Ron and Dan for setting the new bar.

My dissatisfaction is with the fourth place finish, not losing to Mark. This first event riding with him has already helped.

Awesome break in course for my first time behind the wheel of the Miata. Gonna enjoy learning this car over the season. Definitely have to rethink my approach versus the Mazdaspeed3.

Yeah, I was hoping for an easy third place today. If not for Ron and Dan, I still would have been DFL, but at least I'd have a sticker. I guess I'll go slinking back to M2, where at least I'd have been in the middle of the pack.

DFL or no, I loved the course today and had a blast going back to my SC Miata. It is so much more fun than the stock Miata or the Vette on stock tires. Unless I blow up another motor, I expect I'll have a lot more fun losing in M2 than I did winning in S5.

What a awesome HOT ish day.... Neat course.... hmmm left or right....

Seems I beat myself there. Run one and two left, three four five right. Not a huge difference guess I'm not entering or exiting fast enough. Probably both!

With all the changes to the car was just happy I didn't spin.... :thumbwink: :rolling:

Taylor, thank you again for letting me codrive your ride today and being so nice after I put it in the dirt. That car is a lot of fun and you will get the hang of not using brakes! All new perspective on FMI for ya. :rolling: It's amazing what a difference it makes disconnecting that rear sway bar.

Can't wait to get my car back from the shop and learn the boosted way around these tracks.

Of course man, happy to. And I'm just glad it wasn't me that put the car in the dirt first :snicker: Was glad to have a second person give the car a go to help me get a feel for it. Was good times.

FALL came two days late for some Sept 23 racers

Whew! Now that I'm finally home...

It was definitely hot today! I'm totally spent.

We'll have to keep this course in the "use again" pile, it really was a lot of fun! My observation was that it was a bit of a power course, but ONLY if you were able to "thread the needle" and maintain perfect placement through the fast transitions on the way out, and didn't get sucked in by the decreasing slalom on the return side. The turnaround was all in your head. You had the freedom to drive it any way you wanted to! Whatever suited your car and your driving style!

Thanks to everyone for coming out and sharing in the fun, and for helping us "put on the show". You guys are awesome!

I'll have some video from my runs later. First, a shower.

BTW, 39.3 in a car that got me 51 mpg on the way to the event, and 52.2 on the way home ain't too shabby. I'd have liked to have seen a time in the 38's... I think the car had it, I just didn't quite thread the needle accurately enough to keep my right foot planted where I needed to. (which is everywhere)
