Welp drained the tranny oil and some fat metal stuck on drain plug. Sounds like the tranny it is.

Well started to disassemble things. Seems like most of the stuff is stuff I've already done before so it wasn't too bad, just time consuming. Whenever I get it all down I'll ship to either Shep transmission or Jacks. Still thinking about having the transfercase rebuilt as well. Nothing wrong with it but having all the internals not counting the ring & pinion set unless they see it being worn for some reaosn. Also could get a new center diff and have that replaced as well. It's way stronger and has a life time warranty. These cars one of the weak links is the center diff and this one would never go bad and if it does, lifetime warranty.

Things I've taken off so far is...
Wheels
Intake
Upper intercool piping
Battery
Bunch of sensors and brackets on top of the transmission
Drained transmission and transfercase fluids
Slave cylinder
Front sway bar endlinks
Front control arm ball joints
Starter
Downpipe
Both axles
Output shaft
2 tie bars under car
Crossmember.

At this point I can start loosening some motor mounts and then having the transmission dropped. Never done it so it'll suck and stories I've heard about it appears it does suck. Gonna have to get another jack and another set of hands for this.

Bunch of piping, battery, wires taken off.

Downpipe taken down

Had to use this tool and basically push the axle out. Use anti seize on anything if you ever take it off.

Here is the output shaft, need a bolt to screw in and a slider hammer to pull it out.

Couple of pulls with the slide hammer and it came.

What really sucks is you are doing it in your driveway. I vaguely remember those days sometimes involving a tree but not nearly as much clutter under the hood. Great pix. Thanks for sharing. I'll send you a pair of ruby work slippers.

I noticed when disassembling stuff I saw a glob of grease on the subframe. One of the axles got a pinhole leak. Since car is out of service I got some new front boots. Always a messy job.

Good thing you caught that before all that 12 year old grease was gone. Fastest way to kill an axle. Also, who are you sending the transmission out to for the rebuild?

Yea ain't got time to be replacing whole axles, those suckers are like 500 bucks and only aftermarket ones cost 700 for the set.

Sending it out to TRE(TEAM RIP). Probably the best drivetrain shop for evos.
