2020 Rule Change Ideas

I owned almost that exact car! Mine was a '72. Same color, same "runabout" badges and everything. Different interior, I think. No sunroof.

I could see me buying a Pinto. Too many cars right now.

Absolutely! If not for the whole fuel tank fiasco, they'd be remembered more fondly -- the basic platform wasn't bad, and they came with the same engine that formed the basis for Formula Ford. I worked with a guy who had a 4-speed base model in the mid-'80s, and the thing was a hoot! IIRC, some SCCA regions had a Spec Pinto road racing class as well.

I'd put a plug in for an EG Honda Civic as well. We had a '99 Civic sedan for several years, and it was serious fun to drive. Well-balanced, and having to shift all the time to keep the 1.6-liter fizzing was just part of the fun. And they're indestructible.

I'd rock the pinto if he'd drop 50% off the price.

But I already have an S5 car for next year [emoji16]

As one of those die hards in S5,my comment has to due with tire parity. Most of the "performance" cars in HS come with 195-215 tire aspects ,but those that wear 205's or higher aren't much heavier (if at all) or bigger. Since 205's are supported by all of the tire companies with 200 wear tires,I think we should move from 195 to 205 max as a compromise. This is your limit in M4 ,consider the change for S5 as well. Re71r's in the 195 size are 6.6 inches wide versus 7.2 inches for the new yoko's in the 205 size for my 15 inch stock wheels. That's two inches of extra tire to work with.

Not ignoring you, Greg. Just really busy. And I guess nobody else cares.

Here's the thing. We want S5 to be an honest "slow car class". If we allow 205's in S5, then it gets really close to on-par with S4. Not much point in having the class at that point.

So, we're not going to make changes to S5 that would make it FASTER. If we allow other cars into the class, they will be restricted in some way to make them fit what S5 is currently capable of.

And with that...

Ain't nothin' changin' for 2020! :notworthy:

I've updated the class lists on the website to the latest SCCA Classing. Those who care should look it over and see what's changed.
