Hot day in Lakeland. Impressed to see Matt's time, good job. Andrew and Tyler got their new turbos working this weekend. Here is my fifth run, only good enough for second in M3. The final slalom before the finish was difficult with the rear of the car unloading over the bump.

Nice run, Joe.
Hopefully we'll be done with the heat soon...
Event ran like clockwork, thanks to the cast of hundreds that was there. You are all terrific! Tons of help all day, several folks watching offered to lend a hand just for the sake of it, lots of bodies to help pack up. Nice.
Congrats to Bill for beating me, solidly, in one run. And then backing it up with an extra 10th on the last run, just to make sure.
But moreso, or taking first place in M4. Way to go!
The competition was really tight today - so many places decided by just thousandths of a second. Very cool.

Pretty solid event, I'd say!
I was at least 7/10ths off the pace of S4 today. Gonna have to work on that!

Push Harder - Drive as close to the limit of your tires as possible.

I didn't get lost, yay!
Love the location, kinda wish there was another 10 seconds.
No real complaints tough.

10 more seconds would have increased your chances of getting lost by about 50%.

6th place in m3 with a 23.961,

It felt like it was pushing more than usual today. Talking to Kyle about the bump at the slalom, it really seemed setup dependent, we both didn't notice it bothering us. Then again at dunnellon, there was a bump that would upset my car and cause it to spin out

Congrats on all you first placers for the start of the season. Now the rest of us have to catch up
. Damn you Matt, I can never count out the wild, but congrats on taking first. When I looked at the results I was like woot I beat Drew, Ryan, and then saw you above me
.
P.s Gogo Bill, nice woop over Steve! It must've been that "dont let Steve beat you" I told you when leaving the event. Your welcome
My 22.474 run. I think the only place I couldve made a little time(not enough for ftd) but enough to squeak 2nd raw was my left hander turn into the finish, couldve been just a small squeak faster but easier said than done.

My best run. 4/5 run. On my last run I pushed a little too hard gunning for FTD. Pictures are 50% done so they might actually be posted this week.

Here’s my best run, 23.110. Looking at it now I can see two errors where I was losing time. I kept trying to make two corners out of the first turn around, and I never got a good exit on the turn coming to the finish. I think I was focusing too much on my braking zone (trying to nail it just past the bump) and not enough on the corner itself.
Can’t complain too much though, the car with its totally new suspension setup works great and saved me enough to still get the class win. These past two events showed we’re gonna have some close competition in M3 this year
And thank you Philip for letting me try out the NC in the afternoon runs. That thing was a blast. Never quite figured out the nuances to get 100% out of the car, but it was super easy to drive consistently (three 23.1s in a row). Thanks again!

Pictures!
I actually got them out in the same week this time. Big thanks to all my spotters. Without them I couldn't get most of these shots. They are basically working an extra run heat out of the goodness of their hearts.

Miatas aren't supposed to do this:

Not unheard of, given the way the pavement ripples. Maybe confirmation that your front end is too stiff. But why are you braking there (looks like mid-way through the last slalom, shot from station 3)?Loren wrote:Miatas aren't supposed to do this:

Yeah, it was the bump at the 2nd slalom cone that caused that. I wasn't even aware that it was happening. I could feel the bump, but it didn't bother me.
I was either LFB at the second slalom cone out of sheer habit (Ben's been nagging me about that for years), or I was braking early for the left because the car would plow if I didn't.
My plan through there was to brake early and brake straight so that the bump wouldn't upset the car. I think I mentioned somewhere that "driver improvement" was a part of the time I was losing on this course!

Orange is right up there with yellow on the list of car colors that I won't own.

I found consistency (26.2, 26.2, 26.2, 25.8, 26.2), now I need to find speed, aka smoothness. I just graduated from novice status, so I'm shooting for most-improved this season. I have some ideas... I did notice my brain graduating a bit from the next cone to one a few cones away and the go-go-go adrenaline tempered down some. Looking forward to finding that driver mod.

Awesome pictures as always Carracer! The original and second owners of the Z love seeing these. I also liked the "big red brakes" picture. I'll volunteer to be a spotter for you if you need one. Always feel free to ask. Thanks again.
