Minimum age of driver?

Postby NAorTURBO » Sun Nov 10, 2019 12:16 pm

HI guys, I know SCCA Rules allow any driver with a Permit @ 15yr old driver to complete in Solo events when accompanied by an parent or instructor. I have read the FAST event rules and there is no mention of driver must carry a DL or Permit. Can you shed some light on this rule?

I am currently working out the bugs in a 93 Civic Hatch and will be looking to put my son in as many autocross events I can starting Sept.1 2020. Really hoping FAST is a good source for this as my other son lives in Palmetto which your events are closer to him (myself Palm Beach) and these could be fun family comps for us.

PARTICIPANT QUALIFICATIONS – All participants must meet the qualifications of a driver:
Must be over age 16, and if under age 18, have a minor waiver signed by a parent
Must have a valid full driver’s license (learner’s permits are not allowed)
Must have signed the insurance waiver and be wearing a FAST wristband
This is copied right from fast safety rules
Sorry

Thanks Aaron. Safety Rules? Not BASIC RULES? Ok I don't run these things and I'll leave it at that.

I still plan on making a few events near my oldest son. Hope to see you around.

Minimum age of driver?

It's an insurance company rule. All participants must be fully licensed drivers, no permits. In the state of Florida, that means they have to be over age 16 and be fully licensed.

Being something that is dictated by the insurance company, we put it on the website with the safety rules... rules that we follow no matter what.

You'll also find the same information on the info page for any event that you register for:

Driver, Guest and Passenger Requirements
  • No children (under 16) and no pets allowed on site. Sorry, our events are inherently dangerous and are not insured as "spectator events".
Drivers under age 18 must be fully licensed (no permits) and have a parent or guardian to sign the insurance waiver allowing them to participate.
All participants must show their valid driver's license and sign an insurance liability waiver at check-in. No exceptions! This waiver effectively says that you are responsible for damage to your own vehicle, property and person. Autocross is among the safest motorsports you'll find, and FAST does everything possible to ensure a safe event. You compete/attend/participate at your own risk. But, you really should read that waiver and fully understand it before you sign it!
  • Passengers must meet the same license requirements as drivers and are only permitted in a car if the driver or passenger qualifies as an instructor.
  • Drivers and passengers must wear a DOT approved helmet. We have loaner helmets available at no charge.
  • Shorts and T-shirt or other comfortable attire suitable for the weather are appropriate.
  • Closed toed shoes are required!
We run these things twice every month, there's a lot of information to manage, and we can't please everyone with the way that we choose to present it. We do our best. I'll leave it at that.

Minimum age of driver?

Cool, wasn't trying to make waves at all. All I was thinking is it would have stopped me from asking a stupid question if the most basic qualifier was listed in Basic Rules. Didn't mean to go this far but thank you for the confirmation that Insurance is cause and I never doubt the amount of work that people like you do to run events. I have been involved with set up, running, participating in local, regional, national events in other sports

I'll keep trying to get my oldest involved with you guys as you have events that are closer to him and he can't get a ticket or his job will be effected, so he needs to race some where safe.
