Hey guys. Looking to get back into an NB Miata. So if you happen to be selling one, let me know. I figured FAST wouldn't be a bad place to ask. I believe I've heard of autocross events having one or two Miatas? 8-)

NB's are still plentiful. You can get an "okay" one for $3k. If you want a really nice one, expect to pay $4-5k.

That made me chuckle. Thing is, I want to be able to count my MX's on one hand. 6 is just too much for my brain to handle.

Buy the MX-6. Use as a drivetrain donor for a Festiva. Rule the world. :king:

I don't have the skills or talent for any of these things:
- Swapping a drive train
- Ruling the world

I'll check back with both of you once I figure this out. ;)

No, you're not. They're really hard to find. And expensive. And fragile. You don't want one.

Not so sure, as my car came back on a trailer from the Dixie Tour this weekend, suffering from a misfire and a nasty-sounding rattle under the hood after dropping a plug tip. Awaiting word this week to find out how sick it is.

Still about 1500 miles short. But it looks like I dodged the bullet...for now. I'd swapped in a new plug and a new coil pack...I suspect the trouble after that was the broken spark plug tip still in the cylinder. It seems to have finally blown out, or at least the misfire's cleared, and it's no longer making a death rattle. Drove it around for an hour last week and it ran very nicely. I've placed some orders with Mazda Motorsports and Rock Auto, and after I finish building a patio in the back yard, I'll start doing the 300,000 mile maintenance a little early.

You can get a bore scope pretty darned cheap these days. Before doing any expensive maintenance on that engine... might be worth having a peek down inside that cylinder to see how much damage was done.

I picked up this scope not long ago.
Works very nicely (although I have nothing to compare it to).

I'll take a peek before getting into it...but it's not going anywhere until after I finish the patio.

How is the quality looking into a cylinder spark plug hole? The usb otg boroscope I have is almost useless.

I used it to find a part I dropped that fell down behind a timing chain cover, not a cylinder. Just as dark.
It's HD, and the picture quality was actually surprisingly good. The LEDs are dimmable, so once you find the right brightness, very nice.
I wouldn't rely on it for every-day use, but for once-in-a-great-while (hopefully) it's a decent tool.

Oh, by the way - congrats, Gerry - nice find!

I picked up a white 2000 NB! Pretty happy with it. I won’t be able to do much with it for a little while, but I’m already loving it in its 100% stock, unmolested form. I guess the only “bad” thing is that at 51k miles, it hasn’t hit any major maintenance milestones, so I have a long list of little things to do. Basically, anything critical that’s made out of rubber or plastic is going to be replaced.

One weird thing is that they replaced both radiator hoses, but not the radiator itself. Not a big deal, just a stupid move, considering the plastic part looks like it’s about to blow.

Priority goes to getting my ND sold, so I won’t be touching this for a while. But if anyone wants to sell me some NB go-fast parts for cheap, I’ll throw a roll of toilet paper in with the deal. :snicker:

This is 2020, don't you know how hard it is to get digital photos and post them on the internet? And... who has the time?
