It's possible. I know when I've been out on the unrestricted stretches, the "slow" lane is doing 70-80 (trucks), the middle is doing about 100-130, and the left lane what the road will bear.

Went unanswered. My car was 20yrs old. I was in 70s.

Oh I get it. They are the size of Tim's balls too. Very large.
Now I know what the 182mph my vette was rated at would be like.
Thanks Tim.

Doug: I'm here to serve!

Well, finally ready to undertake the fun on the cold concrete...

Image

Two trips to the local hardware store (OBI)...a deep well 15 mm socket for the exhaust manifold and a T60 for the driveshaft. Tomorrow brings shifter/fluid lines...and hopefully the trans.

No cobwebs in this engine!

Success...trans dropped and clutch/flywheel removed:

Image

I didn't know the OEM clutch was a twin disc...should of expected it, but now I know why it works so well even with 655 HP!

Image

And the flywheel:

The rear main seal is hardly oily...almost like it had a couple of 'events' and returned to normal. Nonetheless, will research if I can just pry out the seal and tap in a new one vice my original plan of replacing the entire RMS plate/seal. This requires disturbing the seal to the oil pan at the bottom (just RTV)...more work and more risk to more leaks IMO.

Made an effort this past weekend...

Decided to just pry out the slender rear main seal...and tap in another - hardly any hassle. Glad I did not have to pull the entire plate off.

Back together it went - easier knowing a few of the tricks required like disconnecting the steering shaft, lowering the powerplant subframe like 5 inches!, and using a trans jack!

Did have to bleed the clutch as line was disconnected and had not been done before...minimal issue. Bit of a challenge to access (don't drop the tiny 8 mm wrench into the bellhousing! I put a ziptie on it...) and you have to lower the cradle/engine/trans to do so, but the bleeder was on the top of the slave so that was a nice advancement over the ZF I used to work with. It also uses the brake master for a reservoir...glad I had a willing 15 year old helper who got to 'drive' the machine.

My bigger challenge was when I lowered the engine cradle so far that the pins were no longer 'registering' and become misaligned. Considering the weight you are dealing with (the entire engine/trans could drop out!). I was a bit cautious on how to get past lip to reset. Some prying and finagling the bolt tensions was all it took. I plan to buy new front cradle bolts considering how things were dangling...

Image

Looks much better when it is back together and running...one start up and no leaks or smoking wires as of yet...

Image

and hear it not roar (in Germany at night...don't wake the neighbors!)...video below:

Image

Now to pull the blower off and send out for some porting and pulley change (less boost!)

My assistant thought this car could use some improvements...so off came the blower and shipped to a porter for internal refinement and a larger pulley (less boost!). Hoping to avoid the octane booster, but still maintain the power. Stripped it weighs 62 pounds...

Been a bit while the temps are low and car is on ice, but did receive a lightning fast shipment from Phasteq for a 103MM throttle body by Nick Williams. A work of art and doesn't look too outlandish - perfect:

Image

Don't believe this will mesh with my OEM airbox connection...hmm.

Additionally, will try a bit of an old school trick with a lower temperature thermostat - selected a Katech model of 176 degrees. Quite expensive, but now every car model is unique so not unexpected.

I've noted the consistent track coolant temps probably mean there is little to gain (thermostat is full open), but may help on the high speed autobahn runs where ~20 degree lower start temps may provide a bit more oomph at the top of the run (coolant temps were climbing).

No supercharger yet...hopefully it shipped as the weather is getting nice!

Did receive my Rotofab setup (non-Big Gulp). Unfortunately, I ordered a ZL1 model...but the hoods are different between the two. Additionally, the supplied rubber bellows to connect to the throttle body is too small since switching from the OEM to a 103 MM. Both parts are enroute.

Image

Looks to be a quality product and the filter is substantial - good for my ~700 CHP plan.

Called Katech and they apologized as the order was stuck in between statuses the entire time. Reordered and sent to a stateside relative to reship to the overseas address.

A fun Easter weekend - nice surprise:

Image

Full internal port...

Image

Image

Compared to original:

Image

Image

Went with a larger pulley...to slow the blower and reduce the boost. In hopes to increase durabilty/reliability. (and skip the octane booster)

Image

Familiar pose:

Image

Also added the 103 MM throttle body since it matches the porting...:

Image

The original air intake hose was a real stretch to get it to fit...even used some bicycle tire irons to get it over the lip!

I like the OEM look...so do the Germans:

Image

A bit lucky, started up and drove 20 miles...no check engine light. Now the long distant tuning begins.

Well, updated the program and drove it another few miles...CE light! Code was a lowside fuel pressure low. Watching the scan...it appeared to be true. Messed with connections, more logs. Sent a note to the tuner who replied that he made a mistake on the table. Another program corrected the issue! How glad I was, dredding the task of dropping the exhaust, driveshaft, and tank since no hatch in the interior.

2330 tonight, did a 20 mins log idle to 5000 rpm part throttle sweeps. Not easy to do without being a menace to others. Ran well, we wait for another refined program. Takes a few part throttles before WOT.

A shot of my 'temporary' guage install. For a year, I had the guages sitting on the floor of the passenger - pretty ugly. Finally, I decided to drill the knee 'pad'. Easily and cheaply to replace when tuning it complete.

Image

I found the boost guage reassuring during the logs and overall boost.

Not permanent, for sure!

Tuner cleared me for a 2000-6500 WOT sweep. 0700 Sunday morning the roads are vacant - very easy to accommodate.

Boost showed 9.8 psi (2 less then before), no knock, and a bit rich (targeting .82 lambda...currently .73). It pulled well with a bit more to go. Hopefully he can add a bit more timing to the mix and exceed the previous 655 CHP rating.

5th tune is the charm...complete. Admittedly, only 3rd gear runs so will try a 4th and 5th gear accel to confirm no knock. Previous tune resulted in knock in the higher gears as the blower warms and the load is highest. Hopefully that won't be the case with lower boost pressure overall.

Took a break and installed a troublesome 8 inch bolt after 4 weeks of shipping...1 of 8 that hold the front subframe to the car. Original didn't want to go back in to the captive nut in the frame - challenge space to work, so disassembled to access. Not as bad as it looks - car is nicely put together and gives a shot of all the coolers and associated ducting to all full warranty of the car on the track.

Image

Additionally, did a quick demod of the tuning package and brought it in for German inspection. Passed with no issues! Good for another 2 years...

Got in first laps at the ring last weekend...very rusty since my last visit in August! I noted the alignment in the rear had slipped, but wouldn't impact my mediocre performance. The exhaust note is just evil with that 11.5 CR engine and 10 pounds of boost!

Unfortunately, it let a bit of oil out the breather on the valve cover...not a good sign.

Today, I broke out my replacement Dremel for some slotting of the front struts to gain additional negative camber to -3. Then off to the alignment shop...-3 up front and -2 in the back. Give that a whirl...

I did clean up this cut...:

Image

And a bit of wheel clearance required:

Image

Car is filthy from all week in rain/sleet...I still prefer the rear aspect best:

Image

How often do you see clean Supras...with Slovakia plates?:

Image

Next event is 12 May...back to the dyno to see how much power I've lost with the drop in boost...and the hurt piston... :dunno:

A quick 175 mph run had the check engine light flash...P0300 random misfire.

With the dyno in 2 days - installed a set of fresh NGK LTR6IX-11 Iridium plugs - same as before. The condition does not look out of the ordinary though:

Well, I begrudgingly joined the catch can gang. Mighty Mouse standard variety - very quick shipping for Germany!

Little finesse to install, but so far so good. Haven't tried any accels as of yet...

7th visit to the heart breaker...resulted in a loss of 25 CHP due to the drop in boost of ~1.5 psi from the upsized pulley (slow the blower). All on pump gas and no octane booster - happy with the result. Some offset to the loss was the larger throttle body and ported supercharger - however much that helped. Still not convinced the motor is healthy...~12 psi of boost on an 11.5 CR engine...was a bit much. Sure had a snappy throttle response though!

Image

In and out in 30 mins...very efficient.
