Novice school in January?
Posting this here for general discussion. Once some details are ironed out, the chair can make a post in the "upcoming" section.
Scheduled 2 weekends in January - the 10th, and the 17th. Was thinking the 10th could be a novice school, then a full autocross for them (and anyone else) the following weekend. And before any one asks, there's a two-day event in March - perhaps a more advanced school or test'n'tune, followed by an autocross - but that's another topic later...
Anyway, all we need is a chair to run the school in January. Who's up for it? Who wants more info to help them decide? A team of 2-3 organizers is suggested...

"... and those that can't teach, teach autoCross".
Chair? You've got to be kidding! I'm horrible at organization. If I ever appear to be organized it is because Willemina is in the background pulling the strings.
Trust me; you don't want me chairing something like the school! Too important to have it all screwed up.
I even screwed up while trying to organize a surprise celebration for my wife's birthday tonight. I ordered a really nice cake, arranged for some friends to come over to surprise her and everything.
Forgot that the house is a mess because we are under construction ... again! Being a guy I overlook construction mess; that isn't a real mess, it is just normal for the circumstances.
I did come to my senses enough to decide to warn her that "some people might drop by tonight". I got an earful!

Novices want to improve their skills as well as their standing in the season points. Best to have a school as early in the season as possible.

While I see your logic... it would have been difficult to scrape up the support required to do a school in August. You could probably have found plenty of STUDENTS... but instructors would be reluctant to volunteer to work in the hot sun in August... and volunteer workers? Not likely.Alizarin wrote:I suggested having one in August, but I was resoundingly yelled at.Loren wrote:Novices want to improve their skills as well as their standing in the season points. January will be a relatively cool month.
Besides, we like to resoundingly yell at you for any reason we can come up with. What else ya got?

I'll resoundingly yell at Kenny for not volunteering to chair it!!
But seriously, the word is out that FAST is looking at doing a school, and while it's not 'til January, when you factor in all the holidays, that really only 7-8 weeks - enough time, but whoever's gonna do this probably wants to get started soon.
Anyone?

On behalf of the future event chair - thanks, Dave.
I'll be available to do something, too, but I just don't have the time in my schedule to devote to chairing, again.
FWIW, I do have all the materials from the last two schools, so whoever decides to chair it, you don't have to re-invent the wheel, unless you want to.
If you might think you'd be interested, but don't want to go public, pm or email me for more info - it'll be our little secret 8)

I'm pasting this in here from the 2009 Schedule thread:
Treekiller wrote:I would like to Chair the Classroom portion of the school, but instead of Trying to jam 3 hours worth on info and Q+A into a 30-40 min session I'd really like to meet the evening before at My shop or we can get a conference room at one of the local hotels. but I think the classroom is just as valuable a piece as the driving and allowing an evening for it to sink into someones brain before trying it on course. I've been a student and taught at schools using this method (actually it was my first autocross school) in addition it will allow us to touch on more Advanced topics. what we have used as classroom in the past can just be a low contact debriefing and cool down session.
Meeting all the instructors and going over what you want to learn before turning a wheel will be great. also it's not a required part but valuable. part.
I don't want to chair the WHOLE event but I'll make sure my part is in order.
this way the Co-chair will only need to worry about the On-course activities.
running in the morning, breaking the course down, then putting it all together in the end I loved that.
