K and K Autocross Event Minimum Insurance Qualifications:
Section V. Competing automobiles
A. All automobiles shall be subject to a strict inspection by qualified technical inspectors.
That is all.
(I'm gonna have to scan this document and put it on the website - it's basically our "rules").
I'm not in favor of annual inspections, either. I don't think once a year is "strict." Howard had loose nuts, I think Ron once had loose suspension parts 'cause the alignment shop didn't snug things up, and that was found during tech, too. I recall a few years ago a fine young gentleman who once discovered hand-tightened lug nuts that he had driven TO the event with (cough*Jeremy?*cough). Heck, I once ran an entire event with my steering wheel Club loose inside the car. And these are experienced drivers - we have way too many novices at our events to trust to tech their own cars, much less keep them "teched". And by "trust" I mean with our insurance license, and also not to sue us. If some noob gets an annual pass, let's his car go to rot, comes to an event, causes damage, or an accident, or hurts himself or someone, now we've got an insurance claim on our hands, and waiver or not, possibly a lawsuit. No thanks. SCCA can take the annual risk - they have deep pockets and corporate lawyers. We've got crossed fingers...
