"Official" S2000 repair/rebuild thread
Now that the work has begun (just barely) it is time to start a new thread to discuss it.
Thanks to the help of friends (you know who you are) I was able to trailer the car to Jeff's (treekiller's) shop today. He thought he might have the old, broke engine pulled by tonight. Certainly by Monday it'll be out and torn down to see what the damage is and whether it is worth repairing.
When I get that call I'll be deciding whether to repair or replace the engine. I've also got a 3rd option I am looking at. However until I know more I just wait.
With only 2 weeks and Thanksgiving in the middle it won't be ready for the December event barring a miracle. However I will be driving it again shortly after that for sure.
I guess for me that will be my Merry Christmas!
You'll be able to read all about it here.

UPDATE:
#2 Rod bearing Gone. Opened the Oil pan and clear as day. after I cleaned all the bearing material out of the oil pickup screen, I saw the #2 rod bearing cap was Dark black, not light brown like the other 3.. I'm gonna stop here until Bill decides which direction to go, but motor is on the stand awaiting his word.
Honda S2000, Autocross toy, a car barely alive. Gentlemen, We can rebuild it, We have the technology, we have the capability to build the FAST's most feared car, this S2000 will be that car. Better then it was before. Better, Stronger Faster.
Hey I'm a child of the 70's give me a break.

The "Push Harder, Suck Less" philosophy explained:
Push Harder - Drive as close to the limit of your tires as possible.
Suck Less - Drive something resembling a proper racing line.

Jeff, what about the twin turbo rig for it?
I plan to be the fastest slow FAST car in the club. That is, I can never drive fast, but once a month I can drive FAST!
Even if I drive slow.
But I'm gonna put the F in FAST!

If you're going to that much trouble, make it worth it: a surplus Allison V-1710 will do 1300 hp at 3000 rpm, or double that with turbocharging. You'll have to rebuild it every 300 hours (18,000 autocross runs) though....treekiller wrote:okay I cannot Tell a lie, Bill decided on a Judd GV4 V10
Because 9000 RPM just is not high enough. this is 700Horsepower at around 10,500 RPM.

BRING IT ON! LS7 HUMMM!
bill i want to point something out, i have been working with one of my buddys on his s 2000. he also lost the bottom end due to no oil,
what happens is the oil cooler accumulates all of the left over bearing materal . if you are going to put the honda engine back in you need to replace the oil cooler. other wise it just keeps contaminating the good oil.
we changed the oil 4 times in his car after the rebuild and it is still has bearing materal ever so slight, but its there. after talking to a master honda tech. he said everytime this happens first replace the oil cooler, he said deposits get traped inside you can not flush them out totally.
heres the bad the cooler is around $300 but is money well spent!
just my 2 cents, looking fwd to seeing this beast on the road again.
i have had my own problems going on with my car, after the fl state race.
i have everting fixed and ready to rumble, even r comps for sat
