Which will put me in 4th place in G, one of my highest finishes in a while! :D

I just wish it was because of my driving (and/or my new car) instead of all the DNF's others had. :(

I had a great time, once I figured out the course I was able to relax a little and concentrate more on my driving. My first 2 runs were DNF's and like someone mentioned before, to call in the station number would be helpful. So after my second run I got a "instructor ride" then had Drew ride with me on my 3rd run to point out the turns which was basically a "Sunday drive". So by my 4th run I was comfortable with the course but not my car, (first autocross with my Mustang) so a couple extra runs would've been very helpful.

Drew mentioned the generator for the PA system needs a tune up, I live in St. Pete, so I'd be glad to do it if someone wants to help dig it out of the trailer. Either let me know here or e-mail me, I'll be out of town until 2/22, so i could get it this weekend.

Although I am dissapointed with my runs... Being totally lost for the first two runs, and having to take a ride in another subaru to get the course,(Thanks Kenny), it was a fun course, just 2 runs short of being great.

It really is interesting how different the driving experience is watching Drews's video on race tires and the Miata video vs. my experiences on worn street tires.

I would have needed to mount the camera out my side windows to show the same line. I found myself dumping air pressure up front and a tad out back and dumping dampning all the way around just to get some grip.

I have been doing some suspension tweeking, more camber, more rear bar, and was not able to get it sorted out quite right in four runs.

Anyway big thanks to Drew for Chairing the event.

Also on that note, I heard the big push for chairs and I have read it here on the forums, however having been to about 4 events now I don't feel I know anyone neer well enough to be able to chair an event. I believe that is the true sentiment for about 90% of the individuals that show up to one of these events.

To that end I really think maybe the core people here should be introduced at the events so that new comers like me know who they are. I believe that would also help with knowing whom to direct quetions to for us novices.

Up to you but you might get more support if more people knew the teams they were going to coordinate.

Until then it does not stop people like me from helping out where I can.

In addition if we had a dare I say "Standard" support position rouster for events that may also help novices get a feel for what is needed to chair.

You folks probably know well what you need but a newer chair does not.
example:

Chair : Drew (7am)
Saftey: XXXXXXX (7am)
Trailer: 7am arrival Bill Flowers, XXXXX
Timing Crew : (8:30am Arrival)
1. Charles Blaine :)
2. cxcvxvxcv
3. SET EQUIP (9:00am arrival) ( XXXXXXX)
Grids: (8:30 arrival)
1 XXXXXXX
2. XXXXXXXX
Coarse Setup:(7:00 arrival)
1. xxxxxxx
2. xxxxxxx
3. xxxxxxx

etc etc... maybe even some brief descriptions of what duties entail. Just a suggestion take it or leave it. BTW I did read the How can I help section and this is a good start, but I think we should standardize the rolls and have a checklist/sign up sheet for them for each event.

I agree very strongly with what BlackEyeII suggested.

In fact, I sat and stared at the "Chair needed 3/18" thread last night for a good 20 minutes, typing a little... deleting it... typing again... deleting it... and eventually just canceling my reply.

The information needs to be public for people to peruse and consider, not a document emailed to someone when/if they say, "I'll do it"

People want to know what they're biting off.

I am happy to provide a place to host a directory of our documents, images, and instructional videos. Someone just has to say "let's do that".

As another view to this problem (not that I disagree with what you proposed), there's nothing stopping somebody from saying "Its my first event as chairman. Who volunteers for safety, who wants to run registration, who's towing the trailer? I'd like a co-chair if possible to provide help."

Yep, that's the ticket. All you have to do is volunteer to "wear the event chairman hat". Ask for as much help as you need. The same people don't ALWAYS do the same jobs, and honestly, it's best if we don't get into the situation where we rely on one person to do a key job all of the time. Better to train several people on how to do it so that we can always get it done.

There's nothing stopping anyone from doing that even if it's not their first time! Chairing doesn't mean doing it all yourself, just making sure it all gets done.

See, the thing is, the people saying that ("Just sign up and ask for help!") are people who have chaired.

There are quite a few of us I imagine (myself and BlackEyeII for 2) who want to read about what is involved in chairing an event before considering it.

Without that, I'll continue to help from the sidelines with getting drinks, ice, and doing tech.

There are those who are unwilling to sign up for something they don't know if they can do well. They cannot know if they can do it well unless they know what is involved (specifically).

Just wait 'til pappa Steve gets home from work. He'll hook you up.

(I'd post the link to the old Event Chiarman Guide... but I'm hoping that Steve has revised it because it was way out of date)

Well, um, I, uh, well, it's not been touched. But go ahead and post the link, anyway. Shoot, even an out of date guide is better than none, and most folks reading it should be able to figure out what applies to FAST and what is out of date.
And, since I haven't gotten to revising it yet, which I will, at some point, (unless someone else would like to run with it), to make up for it, I will volunteer to co-chair any event with anyone who is chairing for the first time. It is an intimidating thing to do, for the first time, but it really is quite simple. A few posts, a few emails - the work is learning how to design the course, but that's also fun! So, if you've never done it before and want to give a try, pick a date, and if you want a co-chair to help out, shoot me an email or pm and I'm in. 8)

Here's the ol' Event Chairman Guide in all its glory. You might need to blow the dust off of it before reading.

Oh, and the link to the Roger Johnson course design bible in that guide is long dead. Here's a valid one: http://home.houston.rr.com/rogerthereal/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Well worth the time to read, even if you never intend to design a course. It gets you to think like a course designer, which will help you learn to read and drive a course better.

What are you waiting for? Go read it!

Thanks for posting the links. The course design guide is great - not only does it help with putting a course together, but I found it really helped me learn to read a course as I walked/drove it. Well-written and recommended reading!

I know where, and the combination. I can meet there at lunch or after work. Or, on a weekend.

I'm back in town, so any day after today (Wednesday) would be fine, I could meet you after work (5pm) would be the best, but with enough notice I could do it at lunch or anytime Saturday. Just need enough notice so I can bring my Van. If you haven't e-mailed me already, just do it now so we can set up a time.
