tire shelf life question

Postby snookwheel » Mon Jan 12, 2009 9:21 pm

I have a question. If properly bagged, is it reasonable to expect a set of R compound tires to survive a year without deteriorating? They would not be stored in a climate controlled environment. (non air conditioned workshop)

Thanks, Scott

Yes, they should be okay.

The #1 killers of tire rubber are ozone and sunlight. Bag 'em with heavy duty black bags and they shouldn't deteriorate much at all.

If you want to really do 'em right, get some Formula V tire treatment. Treat them immediately before bagging them.

The "Push Harder, Suck Less" philosophy explained:
Push Harder - Drive as close to the limit of your tires as possible.
Suck Less - Drive something resembling a proper racing line.
