First--I am very happy with my performance. I knew the Subie wagon was fairly fast and a good handler, but I had no idea what it was truly capable of. I am very proud of the car and my ability to figure out how to make it work for me. Kudos to the instructors (especially Charles Stowe and Loren Williams) for some great advice.

Second--I am 36 years old, and I've wanted to get into autocross racing for years. My reluctance to do so has been based on a preconception that the sport was primarily populated by the young and careless. What I experienced on Saturday was exactly the opposite. I am very impressed by the dedication and commitment of the FAST club members, who are clearly very experienced and very careful about their operations. Everything was well organized and very safely done.

Third--I was especially glad to see that, even in a spirit of competition, the atmosphere was very friendly. I sort of expected it to be an every-man-for-himself sort of thing, but I saw people lending tools and offering to help fix cars. I saw people volunteering their time to stand in the sun and pick up cones. I saw dozens of happy people at the end of the day, and I even made a couple of new friends myself.

If this event was any indication of what to expect in this sport, I think I've found my new favorite hobby.

Thanks everyone.

That's the stop drill. Front tires are converting rubber & friction to smoke & noise.

I looked at them and it had Bridgestone REO1R's which are some really good tires. Why would you think it needed better tires?
cuz it did'nt brake and exit the slalom section like a miata

Brian knows that I'd be faster in Jen's Nismo 350 than he is in his Miata anyways...

Yes, I know that Brian is going to enjoy slaughtering my times this weekend :)

I don't buy that.

Overdriving the car, I would buy.

I'd agree, he was a bit too agressive on the throttle on corner exit. He's not used to torque.. :)

I agree with Native, 5Speed4Dr summarized best the school experience!
I had such a great time I have to post my own thanks to everyone! My only regret is that we didn't have a Belgian beer after. Suddenly, everybody left, and I didn't know what to do with the beers, I too was tired, happy but tired, so I went home! Maybe next time!?
Yeah Jeff, I brought them for you, but you were already sick...:), hope you feel better! You say sushi, I say sake!
I'm hooked, I'll be there next Saturday! But I still don't know in what car! I finally spoke to the truck driver, and as of yesterday, he was only in Arizona. He should be in Florida on Thursday, Friday at the latest! I guess I'll be running the Mustang again...
At least, I know now that, there actually is a Mitsubishi on a truck coming to Florida!
Blue or black, see you Saturday!

Little FYI: Bringing beer to an autocross site is bad form. Even if nobody opens or drinks any of it, it's not something we want associated with our events. Besides the fact that our insurance specifically prohibits it, I don't think the site owners would approve.

I'm all for meeting up AFTER events and hanging out, though. We sometimes to that if someone has the forethought to set something up and let everyone know before everyone evaporates at the end of the day.

I understand, it won't happen again!
Jeff (trekiller) had mentioned Belgian beers on one of his posts, and he had let me use his car at a past event. I'm from Belgium, and was just trying to be nice,... But he wasn't there, sick! I didn't want to be the ass who goes back home with his drinks after the party, so I wanted to share.
Next time I'll only bring Coke...or crack, heroine, LSD...
