It's no problem, i should have been clearer with the part I was using.

I did just go re-read Ken's thread, and the picture he posted of the bump stops he got are the same part numbers I'm using. So weird.

I think since these are no doubt softer than what we were assuming I was using, do you think there would be any benefit cutting a small amount from the soft and the remainder from the stiff end? Or just trim from the stiff end to give it the more clean progressive feel?

Fatcat bumpstops are much more dense. Stiffer. Very similar (if not exactly the same) as the ones that came with my Mirage coilover kit. They're REALLY stiff. But, when you get into a suspension with a LOT less available travel, you need that.

I agree, but i believe the bump stops pictured at the far left and far right are OEM NB bump stops and lengths. So I'll def want to trim these to be longer than that to have the car on the bump stops at static ride height.

I'm thinking of trimming down to somewhere between 65-75mm

You think there's anything to be gained to trim some from the soft side given the extreme length of these? Or will that take away from what having longer progressive bump stops are for?

So, if they're 130mm long, and you want to end up at 65-75... you're almost cutting them in half!

I don't think you want to do away with all of the fat end. At most, maybe trim 8-10mm from the fat end, the rest from the thin end.

I doubt you'd notice a lot of difference if you just cut the first 3 segments from the bottom. That would put you right about where you want to be.

I can't believe you goofballs lifted the bump stops that I was using for the Mirage! All the time I put into documenting what I did with the Miata...

But then again you did reply that these were the VW and not the Honda bump stops you used before and that these would definitely need to be trimmed.

So I goofed that up letting you assume I ordered the Honda ones.

Oh well, back apart comes the rear suspension. Although, I wonder if i could get to both sides with a razor blade. Hmmm.

So I have today off to take care of some things and had some time this morning to pull things apart again.

Good news is, I can get the car on stands and pull the rear suspension out in under 20 minutes haha

Dismantled one shock and cut the bump stop at the red lines in the pic. This allowed the firm side to actually fit into the bump stop cup. Came out to just under 75mm I think, maybe shorter, that way I can trim more if needed.

I'll get the other one done tonight, drive the car around and measure the distance from the stop to the shock body.

Well put everything back together again and is still a 4x4 and the car is still sitting on the bump stops and compressing at static ride hide.

I'm about to throw in the towel and just order the right ones from a Honda Civic.

Convince me otherwise lol

Went ahead and had my local Honda dealer order 4 bump stops for me. Should be here tomorrow.

Drove the car around a bunch tonight. The rear end feels great. Stiff but still has some give. The front end feels like total poop because of the lack of bump stops at all LOL

Hopefully rectify that this weekend. Sticking with these VW bump stops as i think I've got them right in the back now. I *might* pull them one last time and trim another 5mm from the stiff end so they're not overly stiff in comparison to the fronts.

It just occurred to me having found out due to paving the Gainesville Drag way they won't be doing the Drag race portion but will be doing 2 xcrosses instead. You can drive or let a professional driver do it for you which they provide. Danny Shields is awesome.

Your car with all your records is well under the $2018 maximum and since there are only 26 entries you could have a shot at winning. Taylor's car got aligned today. He did all the work, I just supervised and took notes.

Before:
Front Camber: -0.4/-0.4
Front Toe: zero
Front Caster: didn't check
Rear Camber: -1.7/-1.7
Rear Toe: 1/16 total toe out

In the rear, we started by maxing it out just to see how far it would go. It would go well over -2.2, probably close to -2.5. We didn't want that much because we know we're camber limited in the front, and we do have an S4 camber limit of -2.0 (+/- something).

After:
Front Camber: -1.1/-1.3 (maxed out)
Front Toe: 1/8 total toe out
Front Caster: didn't check, we went for max camber
Rear Camber: -1.7/-1.8
Rear Toe: zero

This was measured without driver weight. Should be a good starting point. And now Taylor knows how to tweak it himself.

Very happy with the numbers and have the knowledge now to tweak it if I feel the need. Thanks a ton!

Got to a few little cleanups I wanted to do on the Miata today.

-Headlight restore (before and after)
-Painted the wiper arms since they were faded down to the metal
-Painted the terrible copper colored antenna that was on the car
-New speakers (next is a new headunit)

Much better.

Next weekend is tint.
