I'm looking foward to the upcoming event, I have the #12 yellow miata. Also I'm not sure how I can help out, but I'd like to get involved so please let me know.

Welcome! We're happy to have you, and don't worry, we'll put you to work.
There's lots to do, both at the event and in between...
Looking forward to meeting you.

New to the sport
Hello out there, I'm new to the sport, and would like to introduce myself. My name is Ross and have a twin brother, Joey also just starting out. We both have Subaru STi's and are one of the reasons we entered the event and future events to come. The other reasons being my passion for cars, driving fast, and the feeling that there isn't much use of owning a car if you can't enjoy driving it. Is there any tips out there that anybody can give a rookie just starting out in autocrossing. I have done some autocrossing, but nothing like these events (my experience being shorter and more controlled courses), so I would greatly appreciate any advice on things I might need to lookover, bring with me, etc. I look forward to meeting everybody at the event the 13th. If there is anything I can do to help, let me know.

Your best bet is to peruse the following info, but as long as you bring your car in good mechanical condition, your helmet, sunscreen, umbrella/raincoat, closed-toe shoes, and a positive attitude... you're pretty much set for your 1st event with us.

And also maybe this:

Thanks
Thank you very much for the info., I appreciate it. Is there any good place in St. Petersburg that sells helmets at a good price or that someone may recommend, it would help alot.

Helmets
This is probably a dumb question, but I'll ask anyways. Are half-lid (motorcycle) helmets alright to wear?Just curious

I don't make rules decisions, I'm just the webmaster. If Steve tells me that's what he wants to put out there, I'll put it out there. 8)
K&K (our insurer) didn't used to specify anything other than "drivers must wear a helmet". We've allowed the half-height cycle helmets in the past, but I don't know if we still do, or should.
If we do, we'll be the ONLY club that does. Every other autocross club requires a Snell 95 or better.

The "Push Harder, Suck Less" philosophy explained:
Push Harder - Drive as close to the limit of your tires as possible.
Suck Less - Drive something resembling a proper racing line.

Ok, it's been looked into.
Convention says Snell 95 (M or SA) or better - basically two Snell revisions...but
Insurance says "DOT approved." SO, regardless of Snell, it's gotta be a DOT approved helmet. Even better if it's Snell, too, but not an absolute.
We've had drivers use half-shell motorcycle helmets in the past. So if that's what you've got, as long as it's DOT, it's ok.

SWEET!
Now what are we gonna do with folks who show up thinking they are going to get to run and find out it's full? I know a few of the pre-reg'd won't show, but it's gonna suck turning people away...
Kenny and Loren have the course under construction, and I'm sure it will be posted as soon as it's ready.
