That's not a good sign. You guys talking about being scared or just a poor choice of breakfast? If it's being scared, that shouldn't ever happen. You should probably get with a safety steward to see if any of the #2's were preventable. Or pick up some pepto on the way to events.

I want to thank everyone who came out yesterday and helped Steve and I put on another fun autocross event. Things seemed to flow smoothly, lunch was a very nice mixture. Dan said lunch must have been really good because a lot of people were turning down ice cream on a hot day.
The course for the most part got positive reviews, but my pin turn didn't work out like I thought, I think if it was spaced out a little more it would've been better, but who knows. I was just trying for something different than the usual 180º turn around.
We had a nice group at the end get the trailer loaded up, and I can't thank you all enough, you all rocked.
Steve, I counted 7 cases of water and about 4 or 5 cases of soda, I doubt we need to get anymore for SPC, but if we do I will volunteer to go to Walmart across the street and get more if needed.

The last bit I heard was that this driver was still requesting a rerun for stopping for the downed cone... I didn't hear whether he got it or not, but I feel that he deserved two things: 1. to be lightly admonished for backing up on course, and 2. a rerun for stopping for a misplaced cone. I'm gonna bet he got more of #1 than was warranted in the heat of the moment. But, if he didn't get #2, I want to offer an apology, because he should have gotten that rerun.
Chris and I both walked over to his car, and Chris very calmly explained that what he did was not safe. Chris pointed out that other cars were bearing down on him and that he also screwed up timing. I thought Chris handled it so well, I didn't need to add anything to what he said, and the driver understood. Case closed.
I believe both "incidents" yesterday were handled properly and professionally.

Excellent, that's what I like to hear!

Was this Ken? If so then he should have known better. How far was he going to back up? All the way to the offset? Haha, I didn't see it so...
I bet whoever it was felt stupid after doing it any way. Stupidity on course means you lose a run.

Also wanted to add that I really like the new timer display. Its cool that you can watch you competitions time live. Plus its very easy to read and fits nicely in the trailer window. At brooksville the timer in the window works great, but depending on where the finish is at SPC, we will probably have to relocate it.

I was corner captain on station 5. We were spread way apart, Sam to the north, I well to the south. It was a long way from the "alley to the lights"; I didn't want to red flag the course to reset a cone, so I waited until the #12 Honda passed me to run out onto the course. The Honda thought I hadn't seen the cone down; he went thru the lights and stopped. I thought he overshot the exit and was reversing to make the turn out. I stopped watching him, turned my head back up course and ran to set the down cone. Before I could get there, the Honda had reversed back thru the lights. I starting yelling at him to go forward and began waving my flag.
I should have made a radio call halting the course, but it might not have stopped Matt as he was past Station 4 already.
Flames, reversing cars, bicycles and loose bushings; at least it wasn’t too hot and sunny.

Joe your flag definitely caught my attention as I was focused on the upcoming course and didn't see the car ahead of me till you waved the flag. I did almost #2 watching I believe it was Terry in his EVO hauling through the course at speed in my mirrors with no other flags going. I was bouncing in my seat cursing for the other stations to red flag or for the car in front to get off the course. It felt like slow motion and I almost went around him till he finally started moving.
I did get another attempt at the course though, but it's not like I did anything with it.

Yeah I was dumbfounded, I couldn't believe he had reversed all the way back to the downed cone to yell at me to call in a re-run. I was so confounded I didn't know if I should scratch my head or curse at him.

Yes, it was a boneheaded move by that driver. Chris explained to him how his actions weren't safe and the driver understood.
Not trying to bury the subject, but everyone working that area in the course got the on coming cars stopped. Yes it could've been worse, but because the course workers in that area were on top of it, the outcome was safe.

Hmmm... sorry guys. I cut and pasted R1 from the bottom of the page to the top above R2 where it should be. Somewhere in the process of further editing... who knows what I did. It's clearly not there, though!
I'll fix it shortly.

That was a good day on the tarmac. I didn't drive the course as well as I know I could have, but I was enjoying the challenge. I'll be buffing out cone marks from my paint for a week. Thanks Brian and Steve for a great event.
Doug, you keep setting the bar higher and higher for lunch. Seriously, you had ice cream and italian ice for dessert. All I ask is, what's next?

I agree, that new timer display is sweet! I had already begun thinking about where to have the display at SPC. Bob T. sent me some pictures of a stand that another group uses for a similar display. I'll be working on putting something together.

Dave Welsh, the owner of the pair of Lotus formula cars from Sunday, wanted me to share this with everyone:
"I spent the afternoon with Judy. She is in very high spirits. The doc found two small areas that are third degree, he plans to do two skin grafts on Wed. He says she should be released to come home next Monday, and that she will be mostly healed in two months. She has PT twice a day, but she is diligent in doing so as to help speed up her recovery."
Judy is at Shands receiving the best possible care. Dave said the staff there is really great. He also gave props to our course workers and said "FAST is an incredible organization, with the nicest folks we have ever seen."
Don't want to get too deep into this on the forum, please PM or email me if you have questions or want more info. Good job to all who were involved!

Dave also mentioned that he's still trying to figure out exactly what happened with the car. If anyone has relevant photos or video of that incident, please contact me.

+1 ... It was awful.
6 runs. 13 cones. All dirty. I "felt" 2 of those cones. The rest were shocking. I don't know how I could go any slower, or make more exaggerated and wide turns to get around them. It was like the twilight zone.
If anyone was working the course in the 2nd heat, and remembers where the red RX8 was hitting cones, please tell me. And rest assured. I paid the price by working the slalom and running cones like crazy. Karma.
At least I'm happy with my best raw time. It was my goal.
Thanks to Dave for the use of his jack, Eric for the use of his compressor, Matt for his zipties, Gerry for the use of his tools, and Chung for sewing my car's under-plastic back together!
Good driving Loren, taking M1 on your first shot. If this is a sign of things to come, you won't even have to try that hard.
Right after the pin turn, you were hitting the first cone to start the slalom with your back right tire. You never touched the cones on your way to the pin turn, just on the exit.

Okay, when I moved the R1 section, it ended up outside the defined "print area" of the spreadsheet, and thus didn't print. Easy fix. Good to go.
