April 15th Autox at Brooksville

Postby snookwheel » Sun Apr 15, 2012 7:19 pm

What a blast!! Really enjoyed the course... even though the one-pin turnaround gave a bit of pain, there was still plenty of room to stretch your legs on the back side of the course. Very fun with 60+ cars getting 6 runs each, not a bad way to spend a Saturday! One of those days that keeps you coming back :thumbwink:

Congrats for Howard for FTD (nemesis!)

Thanks to all that made it happen!

Well put Scott! Fantastic course even though I only had one clean run and only ever got the pin turn the way I liked once. The course just begged to be driven hard and I certain over drove it...but totally worth the fun. I'll post a couple of vids later.

Fun course, really need to replace those really high treadwear tires on that acura, but I think I'll just wear them down and continue to drive on them, lost a lot of time at the pin turn that I figured out at the end, but those tires make it an adventure to drive on especially the last half of the course lol.

Great event for the most part!

The mighty Fred did better than expected on ridiculously narrow all-season tires, and I was able to win M1 with two runs in John's Miata (with a cone?). I really enjoyed the course... even the "challenging" pin turn!

Results coming your way very soon...

Yep, M1 was the cone eating club today. I'm pretty sure I hit more cones today than the last twelve events combined!

Thanks to all who contributed and participated - especially at the end: the trailer was swarming with help cleaning up. THANKS!!!

The course was great - kudos to Brian. Nice flow.

I coned every run - got a DNF, but I'm not sure I really did - I just took an optional slalom the really wrong way... Still had a really good time driving the crap outta my car and visiting with everyone - good times!

Oh, I know I asked someone, but don't recall who, to take a quick inventory of leftover supplies...

Anyone have any idea - I know there was a fair bit of water and soda...

+1 ... It was awful.

6 runs. 13 cones. All dirty. I "felt" 2 of those cones. The rest were shocking. I don't know how I could go any slower, or make more exaggerated and wide turns to get around them. It was like the twilight zone. :bangwall:

If anyone was working the course in the 2nd heat, and remembers where the red RX8 was hitting cones, please tell me. And rest assured. I paid the price by working the slalom and running cones like crazy. Karma.

At least I'm happy with my best raw time. It was my goal.

Thanks to Dave for the use of his jack, Eric for the use of his compressor, Matt for his zipties, Gerry for the use of his tools, and Chung for sewing my car's under-plastic back together!

Good driving Loren, taking M1 on your first shot. If this is a sign of things to come, you won't even have to try that hard.

I hit a few cones, myself... was doing okay in my car. Only hit two cones in it, both on the same particularly "loose" run.

Then, after 4 runs in my car, I hopped in John's car and pretty much tried to drive the same line, only faster. Two problems with that. First, the car RESPONDS way quicker than my car due to its suspension, quicker steering ratio, and grippy stiff-sided tires. I was way over-inputting the first 3 turns on both of my runs before "sort of" calibrating myself. And then, the car is a bit wider than mine. I was essentially putting "myself" on the same line, which put the right side of the car a couple inches further to the right... and and caused me to hit the same cone before the Chicago box on both runs.

It's definitely going to take a little time for me to adjust to John's car. My real goal, however, is to help JOHN place better in M2!
