Another advantage to being over the hill! You want to do your best and run the fastest, but it is about the fun, enjoyment and hanging out - not beating "XXX" by 0.015 sec.

BTW, just read a sotrue sign:
You do not stop having fun when you get old, you get old when you stop having fun.

See you in August.

Or, if the cone box had washed away and no one replaced the cone, then things played out just as they should. It's the driver's responsibility is to drive the course as presented. :)

I too would agree if I ran in the 3rd run group :chuckle: . Anywho it looks like the cone disappeared around run 5-7. Peoples 6th and 7th run was dramatically quicker. Rain gods took a couple of cones as a sacrifice.

No harm done in the Official Shader Rules of Autocross handbook then.
Well except that the winner of M0 (and also officially deemed "FTD") happened at this time. But I don't really care as its a classic event.

And by "people" you mean me as I believe I was the only official instructor in the 3rd heat, this is a pretty thinly veiled jab at me.

#1 I actually did ask permission before just doing it, whereas I'm pretty sure I've seen many many instructors in the past just do it (yourself included) without asking permission particularly at a "pointless" event. I guess as the old adage goes, its better to beg forgiveness than ask permission. ;-)

#2 I had already taken all my competition runs and thus this being an instructor run it wouldn't have been recorded in the results and thus would have effected things exactly nil beyond extending the end of the event by maybe 20 seconds (big effing whoop)

#3 My student had ridden with Jaime already and she was doing quite well, well enough that I definitely felt she could have benefited from a passenger seat ride along with me.

#4 I had already dropped the idea of her doing a ride along with me driving her car but she didn't bite, wasn't gonna press the issue. I prefer driving my own car anyway in general.

#5 Your argument that there were at least 30 other people who would want to do the same thing while true was mostly invalid since by being the only official instructor in the 3rd heat I was the only person in a reasonable position to make such a request.

But way to go sheriff on catching that "major BS" you surely averted total chaotic disaster and saved everybody at least 20 seconds of their day.

If I wanted to make it about you, I would have. You just made it about you. Your call, sir.

I'm just talking in generalities.

If you've got a student that needs a ride-along to see the course, you put them in with another driver who is already going out. If you've got a student that needs to be shown what THEIR car is capable of, and they don't mind you driving their car, THAT is what an instructor run is for.

The pointer cone did disappear in heat 2 after either Aaron(Deathcart) or the 370 z wiped it out. I was working station 2 and couldnt recall where it went. My bad.

I also moved the random cone back to the turn wall that was sitting in the middle of turn 1 just passed the straight away. It was sitting there from run 2-7 on heat 1- i know because i drove on wrong side of it. It was slowing everyone down in heat 1 because you would have to break much earlier in the straight away in order to squeeze to left of it. Just clarifying

If you knew there was a cone missing, you should have called that in. "I know there's supposed to be an apex here, but the marks are gone and I don't know where it goes." We'd have gotten someone with a course map out there to sort it out.

We had problems with the start slalom "migrating" throughout the morning. It's all part of autocrossing in the rain.

I drove in the third group, and twice came back to the trailer to have course/cone corrections made. It's sometimes hard to tell what's missing...

^^^ And each time we held the start and fixed the problem in about 30 seconds. And had we NOT fixed the problem, it's very likely that someone would have gotten lost and cost us a DNF and a couple reruns.

Moral of the story: If you're working (or driving) course, don't be afraid to speak up if you think there's something wrong with the course. We do want to know.

Not sure I follow. ??
Is that supposed to mean that i should be stung by that?
Not one bit. As soon as it started raining I knew I wasn't winning anyting, so 2nd Place sticker ia just fine. And since I was really first because Daniel was in the wrong class I win no matter what.
It would be a chance for Dan to get his FTD sticker rightfully. But apparently it's not as important to him as it seemed from all his hand-wringing and consternation watching the last run group.

Events over, there wouldn't any be any satisfaction getting FTD after the fact. It wouldve been cool to get an FTD that was a wet run, but stuff happens. Not gonna lie, I was a little salty when I learned that the one apex cone disappeared during the dry, but it's what it is. The next best thing I can do is just agitate the beast :snicker: about the 2nd place due to "wrong" classing.

Daniel come play with me in m1 next season. I won't make it to the dunellon or venice events anyway so it could be a free championship. It doesn't make sense for your evo to go from m1, to m0, to m2 anyway :headscratch: :rolling:

Free championships are no fun, plus Philip is in M1 so that def isn't a free championship lol.

Car was a b street car which is M1. Last year I moved to M0 since the competition looked like fun. Sometime during fall of 2018, scca moved the evo(pretty much all awd turbo'd 4 bangers) into D street which is M2. Legitly, I dont think I can run in M1 unless you're free to move classes like that? Not sure.

I guess the same goes for M0. Can anyone jump up classes whenever they please? So if someone is normally in M3, can they move up to M2-M0 if they want?

Ah true you'd have to compete with Philip for the championship, never mind lol. Yeah I believe you can bump up 1 class iirc
