Re: FAST IROC
Perhaps I can make an addition here.
I have the facilities and abilities to make the car act exactly as I wish..
And Perhaps it's My desire for complete schadenfreude. I was thinking since it's a No excuses challenge. it does not matter what I put on the car.... It'll be the same for us all. But I don't want to surprise anyone with 205 hoosiers on the front and 700 treadwear tires on the rear. (Actually, Jeremy might like that setup)
I was intrigued by the possibility bringing the traction circle as tight as possible. like Loren said it'd be like wet driving but with the ability to brake and accelerate. Heck I was even thinking about putting new shocks on the front or rear only.. Mabye left or right only. Yellow_Colorz_PDT_01
So the question is simple..
HARD or EASY to drive..

The crappier the tires, the more interested I am.

Let's just get a bunch of temporary spares and call it good.

Re: FAST IROC
There's a fine line between "challenging" and "painful". Remember, we're all going to have just 2 runs to get this right. I'm all for making it a challenge. But, I don't want it to be so challenging that it becomes a game of chance!Native wrote:Let's just get a bunch of temporary spares and call it good.

Re: FAST IROC
I have a set of OEM 14x6 alloys with some killed Hoosier (so old I think that they are RS303) 205/55's. Worn out, a couple flat spotted (not by me!) and stoney. If you need wheels or want to look at the tires and assess their ability to make it through the day, let me know.

Re: FAST IROC
The worst tires I have ever tried to autocross on were dead old R tires. Ugh! It seems like the grippier a rubber compound is, the harder it becomes when it gets old.rojeho wrote:killed Hoosier

I can't agree more. The 710s I ran for a few events last year took TONS of grip compound to make them stick.Loren wrote:The worst tires I have ever tried to autocross on were dead old R tires. Ugh! It seems like the grippier a rubber compound is, the harder it becomes when it gets old.

Re: FAST IROC
Well, Shook down some Reliability modifications and the car is ready.. Took the car through one of the "Off Highway" Secret Testing Facilities. 1 hour of constant HARD running and Trans temps are now in check with Synthetic Fluid and I might not have to add the trans cooler I was considering. winds up the trans was slightly overfilled, causing a foam up.. all is happy now!

Re: FAST IROC
Jamie... Hoosier sent me their discontinued Tire list and we can get a set of Bias Ply 205-60-14 for The low Low Price of $67/e SHIPPED! They are An old spec tire so not an "Autocrosser" (actually they said it's like a "decent street tire "that won't chunk") but they have 120 of them left in the miata size.Jamie wrote:Those tires look awfully fresh....
And since you are most likely the only other driver here that's Seen a Bias Ply tire autocross, better yet driven on one.. I thought it would remove any familiarity advantage.
To give you an Idea HOW good of a deal this is, with the price of oil, a new all season costs $50 MY COST!!! I don't care if I use them to drive to the shop and back it's a good deal.
I'm waiting till we hit the full 20 drivers before pulling the trigger.. It's a big investment for a set of tires I know will be 60% done at the end of the day. but Bias Plys are FUN!!! INSANE slip angles so they don't bite you if you slide them a bit.
