Not yet haha And it will be a while before he gets the opportunity. He fell while biking and popped two ligaments in his right shoulder and just had surgery. So no shifting for him for a while.

I'll be sure to take him for a ride tho :snicker: :snicker:

Haha! Unfortunately insurance didn't total that so I didn't have the opportunity.

More fun stuff today. Swapped over odometers from my stock gauge cluster over to the white gauge faced NB2 cluster. Looks so much better. Don't mind the CEL, it's just the EGR valve that i need to pull and clean.

Then installed an NB2 center console.

And finally I pulled apart the infamous floppy eyeball air vents and fixed the felt pads so they're nice and tight now.

Tomorrow it's a 5X Racing shifter rebuild kit with brass base bushing. ImageImageImageImage

It's not the EGR valve on a 99. There is a very long hole going from the front of the engine to the back that plugs up with gunk. I used a copper wire and some gumout with a tube on it to flush it out and put a shop rag over the alternator (I think) to catch the nasty crap that came out of there. Some people used a long pipe cleaner. OR you can just get a longer vacuum hose and hook it to the opposite side of the fitting where there is a better vacuum. It's been a long time but that's the best description I can give you to make the CEL go away for another 100k miles. I think you have to take the throttle body off to get at it? Long time ago. Also adjust your throttle linkage to take the slop out of it.

The Mazda mechanic replaced two EGR's until I figured out how to fix it myself for free.

Good to know, thanks for the info! I've got a brand new intake manifold gasket from Mazda, just waiting for me to not be lazy about pulling that all apart.

Rebuilt the entire shifter assembly today using OEM parts and a 5x racing bronze bushing and replaced turret fluid. Feels like a new car now. There were only pieces of shrapnel left from the original bushing.

Not sure how much difference the brass bushing made, but it will outlast any oem plastic bushing, plus I didn't pay for it lol My brother bought the whole rebuild kit before he wrecked it.

I think Doug is right about rerouting the vacuum line, worked on two 99s for me. Get vacuum from the top of the intake manifold with a longer line, either from the front or rear as I remember. Just not the lower side.

The only Miata I remember driving that had the bronze lower bushing was just hard to get into reverse, as I recall. Otherwise, it felt nice and crisp.

Yeah, reverse is a little tricky, but otherwise it feels great.

Got the bump stops for the rear from Amazon today. Gotta find the time to put these in with the rest of the stuff I have left to do.

I let Phillip drive my car more than once and I'm now missing the front bump stops and the dust covers. Might be a Mazda issue? POS cars for sure.

Rear shocks re-assembled with new bump stops installed and everything buttoned up. Now on to fender rolling. Got one side done. Gotta love a good fender roller that gives you a nice clean pinch. ImageImageImage

All done. First impressions of the new rear bump stops is they feel great. Rear feels much firmer and composed than it did sans bump stops :snicker:

The car is stage coaching like crazy in the rear now tho hahaImage
