Bracketcross - October 13, 2012
Ron, very good idea. The event was really fun and a LOT harder than one might think. Lunch was great, as always (thanks Doug) and the course was superb (thanks Doug and Loren). It was fun getting fun runs in random cars; I'm especially blown away by the RX-8. As for my incredibly underwhelming automatic Protege, I'm surprised my grocery-getting beater managed to pull a 55.7XX!

It was fun! I finished 2nd overall at .079 seconds... right behind "Beginner's Luck" Hernandez, who seems to do well at these weird "special events"!
It was hard! Usually you go out on each run and try to NOT make the same mistakes you made before... today it was all about making EXACTLY the same mistakes you made before.
I was pretty consistent at about 49.5-49.7 except for the one run that I spun. (pro-tip: 1st gear is not 3rd gear) First fun-run in John's car, I uncorked it and ran a 48.8. (by correcting all the mistakes that I'd been forcing myself to continue making)
I think we have John's Miata pretty well dialed in now. Should be amazing with the "good" tires on it tomorrow. (Look out, Jeremy! Look out, Drew!)
Oh, and I took one run in Fred for a 53.5... and my fastest run of the day was in Doug & Eva's Z4, a 48.2.
All in all, a very good day at Brooksville!

The "Push Harder, Suck Less" philosophy explained:
Push Harder - Drive as close to the limit of your tires as possible.
Suck Less - Drive something resembling a proper racing line.

What can I say? I'm... special.
But I noticed the same thing. I seem to have uncanny luck with "weird" events. Got my ass handed to me at The Duel, though. If we ever decide to do another special event, I would really love to do gymkhana again!

You mean where "R" means race? That definately was a competition that should be included in the "points" as people excelled at that who normally don't score all that high in normal "D" events.Gerry wrote:What can I say? I'm... special.

Like Howard told me: "This bracket event didn't matter what you drove the playing field was totally level." To that end a guy driving a shithouse grocery getter won both his class and the whole event. Der Gerry. Hot shoe.

Fun day, fun format, perfect weather, and a handful of fun runs to end the day. Thanks to everyone who made it all happen.
Thanks to Loren for taking another 3.6 seconds off my fastest time. I didn't know our car could go that fast without spinning out.
