November 10th event

Postby snookwheel » Sat Nov 10, 2012 6:41 pm

As usual, a great time! Thanks Jim and Ed for a fantastic well run event, I loved the course but it didn't love me. Nice to have a long run at SPC. The downside....... Mary took away her keys and I have to sleep in the garage... Who narc'd me out? you would think that after all these years, I'd be cut some slack :derp:

Two left turns...... Oh well, I blame it on the election.

11/10 SPC Turnpike Course Event

Postby Solar » Sat Nov 10, 2012 6:45 pm

Another great FAST event in the books, what a fun day ! Weather was perfect, course was a ton of fun, and Jim and Ed did a great job making everything work. Super job guys ! :thumbwink:

Can't remember driving a course at SPC that used up pretty much all the allotted space available, and lasted more than 30 seconds, and was a little scary on paper, but turned out to be a really fun course. I was very happy with my driving today, "but" seems like someone in S5 class was a little happier than I was with their driving. Good job Matt for breaking my year and a half or so win streak; no disrespect to anyone else driving in S5, but it's been a while since I finished second. Now Matt has to worry about me being hungry for my next win, so watch out my friend, I'm coming after you. :D

We have a really good group of people out there, both being the veteran FAST guys and the people we see now and then, and the new guys as well. Everyone pitched in and seemed to have a ton of fun.

Looking forward to Brooksville !

Yep, Jim & Ed put together a solid event. While we "only" got 4 runs, they added up to around 4 minutes for most people. Compared to the usual 6 runs on a 35-second course at SPC... the total seat time was actually more!

Results, results... who's got the results?

Like I got the chance to tell Jim:

"Your course is so much fun I actually forgot to do the pregnant part on the 3rd run." That was my 47.786DNF second run that would have beaten Howard had timing not figured it out:)

Shamu loved it. Sorry "The Baron" got called away. This wasn't a "Mustang" course timewise but it was a barrel of fun to steer around using the rear wheels again :thumbwink:

Another fun event! Thanks to everyone that made it happen. I've got a few pictures up from today, not nearly as many as last month.

Hope everyone enjoyed my theatrical driving today :D and hope to see everyone at Brooksville next month!

Nicely done, everybody! Big ups to the Evil Genius for a super-fun course and the event chairs for making it happen! Special thanks to The Native Steve Frank for handing me my ass today in M2. I had almost forgotten what it looked like, but here it is, pasty-white and in my face. Well done, sir!

Everything about today was great. Loved the course, I did see a few people get lost, but they seemed to be fine the next run. The new guys I spoke to said they had fun and they, their friends, and girlfriends were incredibly helpful and nice. They volunteered to clean up and shared their personal stash of paper towels when ours were not put out during lunch (I grabbed some from the trailer once I found out ours were awol and all was well again in the land of FAST). The supercharger whine from the Lightning was awesome! I can't wait to see everyone in december. Just remember, that as of right now there are only 9 openings remaining for December. The course is already done as are pretty much all of the rest of the preparations. See the December thread in the upcoming section here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=1425

That was an insane course layout, but fun in the end. Thanks everyone!

Just to confirm what I heard afterwards, was it better to start the slalom on the left both times?

Happy that I was the fastest v6 Mustang. :)

How are you supposed to see around the giant a-pillars on new cars? I had to guess where most of the apexes were because I could not see them at all.

I don't think it really mattered all that much, just depended on how fast you exited the turn going into the slalom decided your line. I really didn't see a huge advantage going right on the second time through, there was enough room to easily make that left turn heading towards the finish, at least for me and the people I was riding with anyhow. I know that if I tried to enter it on the right, I would've had to scrub off a ton of speed before the turn entering the slalom that I couldn't afford to lose with my car.

Looking ahead (at 90 degrees or more on the tightest turn was important on this course. Twice I made the same mistake and exited thru the double cones at the top of the turn rather than complete the turn inside!

I tried to trim the few monents of indecision and panic in this video to loop on You Tube: http://youtube/S0q3YIXz14Y

(using the free version of Real Player and am unable to shortern frame sequence time to less than a second so a Pause Annotation at the end of the video will cause it to loop endlessly)
