What a great find!

and Jamie, looks like my periodic use of reverse isn't so innovative, after all!

You know... since we don't operate under SCCA rules (SCCA Solo II rules prohibit the use of reverse and stop boxes on course), we could actually do that sort of thing.

Wouldn't want to do it regularly, but it would be a fun change of pace to do a "classic" gymkhana event.

Very cool, I love old find like this, I watched it a couple times and was looking at all the things in the background like the Firestone shop and Shell station. That Mustang was brand new at the time and was smoking the tires pretty good, I guess that trate with those cars will never die. I would love to have that Porshe or Gullwing, just think, at the time they were just a few years old and probably weren't thought of as something "really" special.

I'd love to see us do one of these! I've been thinking about it for a while.

So how's a "classic gymkhana" different from a good, ol' autocross?

Did you watch the video? In a nutshell, the differences are speed (slower), tighter courses, the inclusion of complete stops, and the use of reverse.

Sounds like a nice one to do at SPC or some other large parking lot... definitely not a Brooksville item it seems though.

Seems like it would be pretty fun, and I'd get to grind down the reverse cog on my car a bit.

I would rather keep going forward quickly without stopping or reversing, I can stop and go in reverse every morning when I go to work. :?

If we do this, we'll make it clear that it's not a typical autocross well in advance. Full disclosure. Anyone who's not up for it doesn't have to come.

Loren and I are talking. Our thoughts on what a course could be aren't too far apart (once I was able to make the distinction between a gymkhana and a funkhana).

If this happens the course will be nasty, devious, evil, devilish.

Bwahahahaha!

I don't think a 2 minute run would be out of the question.

OH-my-holy-Crap! That film was shot in the Town & Country parking lot in Mishawaka, IN. That is where I grew up!!! I was actually one town over, in Elkhart, but my friends & I spent all our time in Mishawaka & South Bend. That plaza was home to a dingy dollar theater, Chuck E. Cheese, a solid independent hobby shop with lots of good modeling & RC supplies and, most importantly, the best college/alternative record store within an hour of my house! Starting when we got our drivers liscences @ 16 my best friends and I would go on Tues. @ midnight for the release of all our favorite artists records. Even locked my keys in the car once & had to call Mom to come bring a spare @ 12:30am! :D

Loren- thanks for posting that link!!!

Huh! I was on a business trip in that neck of the woods just a month ago. We used to stay at the Holiday Inn Express in Elkhart until one in Three Rivers opened closer to the factory in Constantine, MI.
