FAST 2013 Championship Awards Party

Postby Loren » Sun Jul 28, 2013 9:35 pm

It's Party Time!

Who: All the friends and family of FAST!
What: FAST Awards and annual meeting, pot-luck style picnic and all-around good time.
Where: Philippe Park (Safety Harbor)
When: August 17 11am-2pm (or later)

Please pre-register for this as you would any other event, except this one is free! Just bring some food to share.

This will be a family-friendly gathering. Philippe park is well-shaded with nice playgrounds for the little ones, plenty of space for anything else, and we have a shelter with restrooms nearby.

See the attached file for the latest list of who's coming and what they're bringing. (I'll update it every day or so - updated 8/14, 7:31pm)

Looks like about a dozen people coming so far, we're getting there!

Please do take the time to register if you're planning to come. FAST will be providing drinks and ice, and more depending on what other folks decide to bring. We need to know how many to buy for.

I'm in. I'll make an appearance while my boys are good, and can take the heat.

Less than two weeks to the party. Time to get registered and start making plans!

I heard a rumor that Ron was going to bring out the autocross timing equipment for some sort of "unique" competition. I think he hinted at some sort of cross between American Gladiator, Gymkhana and the Hunger Games. I may have misheard part of that. :headscratch:

Looks like about 24 people on the list so far. Curiously, over 20 of our award winners aren't even on the list yet.

If you're planning to attend, PLEASE register so that we can plan accordingly. :happyblob:

It's difficult to plan a party when you don't know how many people are coming! Those who are signed up, poke and prod your friends, get them to commit. Thanks!

I sent out an event reminder email, and this thread has been here for weeks. :dunno:

The go kart place is still there, we just decided to do something different this time.

Well as usual I must have missed it.

If "FAST" can give me a couple large pork shoulder (aka pork butts) and supply the buns, then I will put it on the smoker and we can have a bunch of pulled pork for the event. We are talking about 12 to 14 hours of smoking.

Now you're talkin'!

Do me a favor and consult with Steve on purchasing some meat.

As for the buns... maybe that could be an item that one of those people who isn't sure what to bring could bring?

Will do, probably need two "butts" to cover the day. As far as the buns go, those small Hawaiian will work great. The KFC cole slaw will make it just right. Can't wait to get my smoker back on line after a 4 year hiatus !

Oh SNAP! Way to go Brian. Shall I make a donation box to have sitting next to the pulled pork? 8-)

Not necessary. Steve and I were expecting to buy "something" for the potluck on behalf of the club, we just hadn't decided what. This will do nicely!

Based on the number of people we have so far, I'm going to suggest maybe 8 packs of little Hawaiian rolls. Maybe two guests could bring 4 packs each? Would be awesome if a couple people would do that.

And Brian mentioned cole slaw. If someone wants to make or buy some slaw, that would be a good addition. BBQ sauce might be another. As would some beans.

Smoked pork might be just the "cornerstone" that we needed. :thumbwink:

I will take care of the beans and sauce. I have a really good bean recipe from my old BBQ friend named Dutch, it's always been a hit.
