Official Novice School thread - Jan 12, 2008 - SPC
FAST is holding a Novice Autocrosser's school on the driver training pad at the St Petersburg College Allstate Campus! The $60 entry fee includes the world-famous FAST Lunch and more than twice the seat time of a regular autocross!
To provide quality instruction, the class size is limited to 32 students, and preregistration and prepayment will be mandatory. The event will run from 7:30am - 5pm, approximately. The school will consist of three different driving stations, plus a "classroom" session. The student:instructor ratio will be 4:1, or better.
Please note that drivers under age 18 will require a parent or guardian to sign the insurance waiver on-site allowing them to compete. For insurance purposes, everyone must sign the waiver.
Then, on Sunday, Jan 13th, FAST is having it's first autocross of the 2008 season. Students who participated in the school will be eligible for a deeply discounted entry fee of only $10! That's an entire weekend of autocrossing and free lunches for only $70!
Registration for the events will be opening soon - stay tuned here or keep an eye on http://www.myautoevents.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Again, preregistration and prepayment for the school, and for Sunday's autocross (if you want the student discount) is required.
Any questions can be posted here, or email/pm me, or wedrivefaster@yahoo.com

Aw heck, let's tell 'em:
Courseworkers will be asked to volunteer to help setup, monitor the event, pick up lunch, reset cones, clean up, etc. In return for the work, all courseworkers will be offered a free autocross on that Sunday, plus one other credit for second regular autocross event later. You'll also win the undying admiration and respect of your fellow autocrossers!
We'll need a real committment from anyone who volunteers - if you say you'll do it, please plan on being there! Having enough help will be vital to the success of the school.

6?
You need more than 6 workers. We barely scraped by with I think 5 last year. With three exercises going concurrently, 6 would be the minimum, and that gives the workers no breaks.
I'd plan for 8... and given that a lot of people say they're going to show up and for whatever reason don't show up (I know, stuff happens)... you'd be best to try to schedule 12 volunteer workers.
8 instructors is reasonable, but again... three per station (and we found it best to have the instructors rotate with the students so that they can continue working on the same issues in the same manner as necessary) is a lot less busy. I'd that's almost a requirement. Again, keeping in mind the no-show factor, it would be wise to schedule for 12 instructors.
It really does take a lot of support to put on a good school.

Push Harder - Drive as close to the limit of your tires as possible.
Suck Less - Drive something resembling a proper racing line.

Sorry, I should have written "at least 6". Last year we had 5? seemed like less. I'm fine with more of course, I know what it's like to be one of those few workers at the school
I think we may have been done to 3 or 4 last year after a few hours...
We were shooting for 12-13 instructors at least currently. I've contacted 10 people so far. Steve and I still need a few more instructors if anyone here that I haven'y contacted through PM or in person wants to instruct, PM me.

Wow.
and I guess that means we need to get the staff rounded up.
C'mon folks, it's volunteering that makes this club work - the novices need your help! Step up!
