Brooksville Registration changes - effective for Dec 16

Postby Native » Mon Nov 19, 2007 9:57 pm

Well, folks, some policy changes at the airport have made it necessary for us to change the registration procedure for Brooksville events, effective immediately:

Registration will be capped at 50, instead of 80. All registrations must be prepaid, and will be nonrefundable and noncreditable.

We will allow a maximum of 25 guests/spectators. They must also preregister, and a $5 charge to cover lunch must be prepaid, and will also be nonfundable and noncreditable.

For those of you who have already registered for the Dec. event, you will be receiving a notice soon. We apologize for the short notice, however, we too did not receive much notice from the airport administration.

We at FAST have tried to keep our policies as flexible and "laid back" as we can. However, as we want to continue to enjoy the Brooksville site, we had to make adjustments to satisfy their requirements.

We appreciate your support and understanding. Please know that this will in no way change your FAST autocross experience - same quality events, same world-famous lunch always included.

Registration procedure for SPC events does not change.

Any questions may be posted here, emailed or pm'd to me or "Jamie", or to wedrivefaster@yahoo.com

Wow. That's a pretty abrupt change, and rather... well, is draconian the proper word to use in this case?

I'm sure you can blame the TSA for all this...

Just let us know where to send the payments ;)

I agree with you both (although I liked Kim's comment better because I had to look up "draconian."). We aren't happy about having to do this, but the airport is now requiring an accurate, in-advance list of actual attendees, not just possibles.

On the plus side, it makes event organization a lot easier. No collecting cash at the event. No guessing (or not nearly as much) who's going to be there. Run/work groups can be accurately planned, etc.

On event day, all we have to do is set up course, tech the cars, have a driver's meeting and run. In the end, it *should* mean either more runs or shorter days.

So, yeah... it's a pain for some people, but it's unavoidable and there is some good that can come from it.

I'd have to agree with you, Loren.

It was kind of frustrating expecting 80 drivers this last event...

And then ~50 show up?

That's kind of lame.

how many people missed out that WANTED to be there, but couldnt because registration filled up and people decided not to show up after making their "commitment"?

I, myself, look forward to more runs ;)

I have a question. I will not be running my car at this event due to some very poor tires. I would however like to help out and get involved. Pete Varga took me for a ride and I am HOOKED! Please let me know what I need to do at this point. I have already regitered, but I see the new changes. Do I need to pay like I was running my car?

So does this mean we can only bring one guest per race driver??? I have three guests that like to attend. i already have the one from the pre register. The other two i can guarantee to be there if it is allowed and i can pay in advance for them if needed to...

Not sure about 1 per driver, just 25 max. If it is 1 per driver I'm sure others here can add your guest to the list. - Edit just went to register and saw that part. Well I'm sure people here can add your guest to their list if they are not planning on bringing someone.

SS: You can be added as someone's guest and pay $5 instead of the driver fee, or you can replace those tires (it may be wise anyways if it's your daily driver and the tires are that bad) and have more fun driving :)

Maybe some else could let you drive their car? Your help is more than welcome, we always need people to help set up and tear down and do misc other things. Hope to see you there!!

Tires are on the Christmas list. I hope to be racing the full 08 season. I will see if Pete is going to bring the Firebird out for this event. If not, I will just pay the $30.00.

For this one, yes. The 75-person limit isn't our invention -- if we exceed that, the airport will hire an off-duty deputy at our expense to watch us all day. (Still haven't figured that out...if I put on my uniform and hire out, I'm a mercenary and eligible for a court-martial....) We could have set the driver limit to 75 and no guests...but our normal turnout seems to be around 50, so we're trying to keep things a bit flexible. Given the short time between now and the registration deadline, and having fewer available guest slots than driver slots, one per entrant keeps a few people from soaking up all the available spots. By February (the next Brooksville date), I hope to have something a bit more flexible figured out.

As an easy alternative, you certainly can get with someone else entering but not bringing a guest and have them sponsor one.

Waaaaaaaiiiiiiit a minute. Does this have anything to do with the fact that I may, on occasion, drive a little... um... spirited through the grass area?

I found two people to add my other guests to there open guest spot. My question is though who and where can i pay the extra 10 dollars for them so the two people putting them on the list doesnt have to pay for it??? Derek and Tim in the class E group are the ones who offered to put my other guests on there list...

No way to automate that...bring a couple of extra $5s to the event and settle up with them there.
