July 26 @ Tampa Bay Downs

Postby Loren » Sat Jul 26, 2014 8:17 pm

I am truly and totally exhausted. What a long, hot day! But, it was a great event. We got no rain, and something over 100 drivers each got 5 runs on a challenging course. Lunch by Doug. 23 cases of water and 8 cases of soda consumed.

Thanks to all for the usual array of help everywhere it was needed!

I'll get the results up shortly, and if I don't end up asleep after taking a shower, I'll try to get the final Championship Points update done. :geek:

Okay. My two year old battery took a shit in the Grey8. So when I called all the people on my cell phone who were at the event including my wife who had her's off. My Last resort was Matt Sullivan who I knew was in grid driving but I was getting desparate with thoughts of a shit ton of cold food going bad in the Publix parking lot.

Matt answered. Yea Matt. He saved the day yet again. However: He handed his phone to Joe Vance working grid to resolve my "need a jump issue" as he drove to the starting line.

I have never heard Joe laugh that hard "EVER". Payback for busting his balls about his radiator issue....

Okay, Joe. Note that I didn't run out of gas. Thanks to you and MOSTLY Vivek for the emergency squad jump. 911 Vivek.

Good thing I bought gas as I had to leave the car running for about 3 hours. I shut it off in Auto Zone when the man had the "tester" hooked up. 50% charge. Minor discussion and it went Click, click when I tried to restart it after running it for 3 hours. So anyhow the "golden battery" had a 3 year replacement guarantee and he gave me maybe an even better one? 800amps + 650 CCA. Does it get hot in FL? They should have HCA. No charge. Awesome.

Went home and reset all the electrical crap like my garage door opener, radio presets, clock, AC fan and menstral cycle for the white feral cat we feed.

Car runs alot better with full spark now. Geesh. Good thing I didn't have a horse in this final race.

Thanks to all for a great event. See you in Septober.

Oh my gosh it was way too hot, I had a migraine that lasted until 8pm tonight. I'm glad I could help Doug, pay back is awesome. What the heck does it take to win in S2? I'll see everyone again in September.

Here was my fastest time of 43.772, ok with the result, but I need to improve looking ahead. Two DNFs today and one near DNF in the same spot as my first DNF in the last run near the end of the course. But I like how I honked the horn lol.

I leave the AM session in first place for M1 and find out I'm third when the sun sets! Where did this Jesse come from? I still not sure about this split format...I mean it was supposed to rain in the afternoon...it is summer in Florida for goodness sakes!

Great driving Jesse...Joe B, you as well. I still don't know how you are so close to a AWD 350 HP Subi compared to your 240 HP Beemer driver.

Course was tight, but quite fun...wished for some higher speed sections, but lot obstacles seemed to get in the way. Getting 5 runs was a plus and should be the standard.

I certainly get the award for the quickest spin run, no? 5 feet past the first cone...AWD twirl. Goes to show all the 4 wheel drive, launch control, computer controlled diff doodads can't make up for the hamfisted.

Joe V....I think your answer is to raise your rev limiter!

Fun event-as always-thanks to FAST crew.

Today, another 0.093 seconds. Which is closer than the half-second I needed. Nice job.

All Ben would have had to do to win S2 today was not hit a cone. I would have needed to suck a whole lot less.
Tim_M wrote:Course was tight, but quite fun...wished for some higher speed sections, but lot obstacles seemed to get in the way. Getting 5 runs was a plus and should be the standard.
The course was tighter than intended in places. The first section of the course up to the tight left was about what I envisioned. A little tight, but made good safe use of the area with all the light poles. The double-coned gate after that 90 was just plain placed wrong. I hated it. Didn't flow.

The rest of the course was tighter than I expected it to be, but it flowed well... and if you didn't overdrive it like I did, it was fun.

This was our third time at TBD, and each course has been pretty wildly different. We're learning what we can and can't do. What works and what doesn't. The courses will keep getting better as a result. Unfortunately, we probably won't be back at TBD before next Spring!

Thanks Tim. I told you I was coming to play in S1

Word on the street is Joe B. is going to co-drive with Loren next year. Could be some epic Subaru battles next year. :thumbwink:

It was not an easy course. Here's my best:

Wow! Another really fun event, thanks to a tight course. The weather wasn't as bad as I was expecting.
Not my best run, but this is one where the lap recorder didn't cut out. Here's today's hero, Vivek helping this noob with the basics of "Brake. Turn. Go."

Love seeing your vids, quick guys. Show us how it's done! :notworthy:
Very pleased with the new tires: BFG G-Force Sport Comp-2. Sure, there's better out there ($$$), but for the street / occasional autocross + super wet grip, they're worth a look for us casuals. Even Vivek seemed a little impressed.

Nice run.

I was happy with my comp2s for the two years I had them on my integra for the most part, being able to drive in the rain and decent grip. But lots of brooksville autocrosses didn't help with their lifespan. Currently using them on my beater and for being quite worn, still drive better in the rain than the old tires before it.

It was a good time as usual. First time I've ran an entire course in 1st gear, that surprised me a bit on my first run. Thanks to Vivek for the tips, man I learn/understand something new at each event and still see so much room for improvement. Thanks to Murdoch for the ride along(s), that Shelby Stang is so much more sorted than my ride, it was like night and day, I'll try to fix that over the course of next season!
Awesome event!

Had a great time out there yesterday! I couldn't muster a clean time in the 39's, for all of you that could, :notworthy: especally to Rob for having a 2 month break to come back and show S2 how it's done.

Joe you knew how to win in 2012. Look at the people who run in S2 now. Shit ton of young guys. Rob Ledwell doesn't like being the last T Shirt anymore. Who is this Jake the Flake from Alaska? Back door to Subaru.

Unless you are prepared to deal with 255/40/17's (John's Joy) from the previously tasty Grey8 of 2014?

Be prepared to finish well back in the pack in 2015. You are getting older and unless you convince me to stop doing the pre-event bitch slap of these young guys? Well it really sucks to be you then. FYI. I never have had a headache other than a "brain fart". Purse your lips and let it out. You can say: "It sucks to be Joe in 2015." :rolling:

Man is TBD a love/hate relationship. It's slippery, it's got big hard obstacles, but the facility is just fantastic. I still look forward to more events there. I had a blast and have to agree with Tim. I certainly do miss running with your class all at once and 9 of the top 11 all ran in the afternoon. I'll probably plan to run in the afternoon in Sept to see if it really matters much. It's been a while since I've done an all day event anyway so it'll be fun.

Lots more time in the car, the driver needs to step it up. I think I'm still driving my car like when I first started, but the car is setup in a completely different way now. Time to get aggressive with her. Looking into upgrading the rear gears too. The 2.59 just isn't cutting it.

And of course I forgot to check which case backing I had on. Still had the waterproof case from taking the kids to the beach, so the sound sucks.
