New Web Server!

We just moved the FAST Website and Forum to a new web server. From a user perspective, nothing should change.

Geeky stuff: From a technical perspective, we now have a "Virtual Private Server" and are on our own IP, which will hopefully solve some of the email issues that we've had in the past. (we shared a server and IP address with other websites before... so, if any of those other websites were sending out spam and got blacklisted, we were also blacklisted)

Let me know if anything blows up!

This isn't really directly related to the new web server, I just finally decided it was time to update the forum software.

So, we made the jump to the latest version of PHPBB. The reason I'd been putting it off is that it broke compatibility with our old display theme, which is why things now look different. But, I figure if they've gone to the trouble of basically rewriting the software, there must be good reasons for it... and we should upgrade to take advantage of perhaps greater speed, better reliability, better security, new features, and whatever else.

Basically starting from scratch here. And this may not be the final theme. Even if it is, we'll be making some little tweaks to it.

I've also got some functionality to look into getting set up again, like the "vid" tag to display videos.

I did get Tapatalk back up and running, though.

BTW, if any of you have changed your email address and aren't getting forum emails such as topic replies like you used to... the forum IS still sending them. And they are bouncing back to the forum email address that never gets checked. Update your email address!

Heh. The "vid" tag is already there and working fine. Show's how much I know. I guess that whole custom tag thing must be stored in the database.

I think I've settled on a theme that I can live with. Y'all let me know if anything is broken.

This forum theme looks better than the first ( since the update )! Everything seems fine.

I liked the initial appearance of the first one, but found it difficult to read. This one is much more readable, and it's full width. Good stuff.

Yeah, we've had more than a few years to get used to the old layout. Might take a minute to adjust to this one!

Hmmm... that was the thread that I checked to see them a while ago. What are you seeing in place of videos? Are you not seeing ANY of them, or just certain ones?

They're just black boxes on my chrome book and full browser phone, Tapatalk shows the vid markup.

Oh, Tapatalk. The Vid tag never did work on Tapatalk. And won't. Unless you want to go and rewrite the Tapatalk app. Sorry. Can't fix that one.

I'm getting vids in Chrome (on Windows 10). Black boxes on Internet Explorer (whatever the hell version I have). Black boxes on Chrome on Andriod.

I'll have to dig around and see if there's an update for that.

On my Mac with the latest Safari I see a black box with "phpbb[video]" in the lower right corner. It is a clickable link to phpbb.com. There is no video though. Doesn't matter how long I wait and I don't think it's a connection issue on my end as I'm showing 134.7Mbps up and 127.3Mbps down on speediest this morning. Could it be some admin thing allowing you to see it correctly on your end, but users not seeing it?

Okay, I think the Vid tag is fixed, and the smilies and other doodads are now available in Quick Reply.
