June 18 - FAST Classic @ Brooksville
I guess it's about time to start talking this one up, eh?
We haven't done a Classic at Brooksville since January! In honor of that, we're going back to "Classic roots" and including a practice skidpad in addition to the course. You'll have time to play on it during the run group that you're not running or working. (this will be a 3-group event)
Registration is open until June 13, go do it!
Remember, this is a FAST Classic, so some experience is required. If you've done at least 3 autocross events (any club), you're good to register.
Also remember that because it's Brooksville, all GUESTS must register.
We'll be providing lunch for all at this event.

Hmm. I've got some tire tuning to do. This may be just the thing.

No way! I bought the Miata to SAVE money on tires!Jamie wrote:What...you're looking to use up another set of tires?vzwire wrote:Practice skid pad? Tell me more...
Since this is a classic event at Brooksville, I'm hoping the course layout is full of craziness. The pretzel at TBD this weekend was crazy for most, but this was absolutely my favorite course this season!

If you think FAST has ever done a "Miata only" course, you clearly haven't been watching Alan Vint.

The map is not accurate. The skidpad will be much farther South, plenty of room for grid and parking and a skidpad grid in-between.

Hijacking the thread for the common good.
I need opinions on whether a non contact tire pyrometer is sufficient to use for troubleshooting on the skid pad. Or is the type with the probe worth the extra $$.
I'll offer whichever I get for use on the 18th if I can get it before then.
With a skid pad, it's a good time to check tire pressure settings.

Contact or even IR is sufficient for skidpad because you can check the tires IMMEDIATELY after you get off of the skidpad. A piercing probe that will get sub-surface temp is better for track use because the surface temp could change significantly before the car reaches the pits.
I think Joe Brannon has a pyrometer. So does Joe Vance.

June 4 @ TBD Post-Event
Loren if you don't know what your tire pressures are you are screwed.
My 2 cents. AND you will lose next event.
