FAST Classic - SUNDAY, March 26

Postby Loren » Wed Mar 08, 2017 2:21 pm

We haven't had a plain ol' Brooksville Classic since early January! We'll be doing a short practice element this time that you can run in your off run group. The main course is a revision to one that we did last year that was really fun. It's got a genuine "feel the rythm" 9-cone slalom in it. (the original course was only 7 cones, and the rythm was there... just not enough of it!)

We're shifting our Classic event schedule just a little bit. Starting about half an hour later. Be sure to look at the schedule on the Registration page.

This is a Classic event, which means fewer entries, more runs and no formal novice instruction. We do require all entrants to have competed in at least 5 prior autocross events so that they sort of know what they're doing (or enlist an experienced sponsor). And don't forget that our exhaust sound restriction will be fully enforced.

We'll be providing lunch for all registered drivers and guests at this event.

We're still doing the Buddy System for less experienced competitors. We will allow less experienced autocrossers, even first-timers, if they have a qualified FAST regular sponsor them. As the experienced buddy, you can only sponsor ONE driver, and you are responsible for them throughout the day. You will be paired with them in the same run group (they don't have to drive your car, but they can) so that you can ride with them and they can ride with you. And you may be paired with them on a work assignment. We have no formal novice training at a Classic event, so the responsibility falls to you to do a good course walk with them and show them the ropes. We hope people will continue to have fun with that!

Registration is open until March 20. Get on it!

This event is at Brooksville, so pre-registration is required for ALL drivers and guests.

If you want it, here it is, come and get it.

Did something a little longer this time. Including the RealSlalom(tm). Remember, there will also be a short practice element on the other side of the grid area. Didn't bother mapping it, we'll wing it. I'm thinking something like an oval or kidney bean. Good for checking tire tread temperatures and adjusting tire pressures. Or just practicing turn-arounds.

Well I don't either. Because: Mature Guest from overseas staying with us for a week and standing/sitting/jerking around at airport in sun is definitely not his idea of a great time. :read:

Does look a really smooth adult course tho' :thumbwink: My slowing reflexes would do well there.

Mannnn, I signed up and was all pumped but on way home from last event my car went into limp mode. It sounds like a rocker arm came loose (and hopefully nothing else). Will take to shop on Friday possibly, or Saturday/Monday (tow). So it won't be nearly ready in time I don't believe. Looks like a fun course too. I'm real upset.

And for a change of scenery I'm now dailying a big lifted crew cab GMC versus a crew cab golf...sigh...

Indeed. Nothing is faster than a rental car. Especially off-road.

Hahaha this may be the greatest idea ever conceived.

Edit: If I can convince the VW dealer to get me in a manual Jetta as a rental I'm signing back up! Don't count me out just yet!

Randy, no one should be walking away with a class or it's not really a challenge for them. Probably time for them to move to one higher class to stay challenged if that's the case. It's great you two can mix it up at the top without me having to get Drew or Joe to co-drive my Vette  I see Don W is coming. He's gotten quite good with his open diff BMW. Should be good competition for you all in S1. :thumbwink:
