Changes for the 2017-18 Season

Postby Loren » Sat May 06, 2017 11:47 pm

After the discussion and poll regarding rules changes Here and Here, and the discussion about the points system Here, and extensive sound monitoring over much of this season, here's what's coming down the pike:

Mod Class rules changes: (effective 9/1/2017)
http://drivefast.org/rules/2018-mod/

Stock Class rules changes: (effective 9/1/2017)
http://drivefast.org/2018-stock/

Season Points method change: (effective 9/1/2017)
http://drivefast.org/event-info/season-championship/
Points will be awarded as follows:
1st = #cars x 2 up to a max of 12
2nd = 1st minus 2
1 point less for each position below that to a minimum of 1
Lowest 3 scores will be dropped at the end of the season

Sound Limit change: (effective immediately)
http://drivefast.org/rules/exhaust-sound-level/
1dB higher than it was.
Soft Limit = 96dB (fix it, eh?)
Hard Limit = 99dB (we might have to stop you)

If I read this correctly, no more 225 tires in M4 ? I guess that will bump me into M3, no big deal, but what was the reason for this change ?

This was all discussed many moons ago. Read the discussion.

And More Discussion with the Poll.

Also, note that this thread was initially posted on May 6th. You're late to the party.

What? You think I should go back and read the discussion for you and give you a synopsis? This was all decided 5 months ago, I've forgotten the details.

Changes for the 2017-18 Season

Postby Loren » Fri Aug 18, 2017 10:59 am

Was about to go through some of our commonly seen cars and see who's changing classes this season for my own benefit. Thought I'd go ahead and put that list here.

Just a refresher, FAST classing starts with your "base" class. That is, the SCCA Street (formerly Stock) class that your car would be in if it were stock. FAST classes mostly consist of more than one base class, and we've shuffled some of those around to try to get better class sizes and competition.

This is not a complete list! This is just a list of the cars that I know (or maybe think) we've seen a lot, or might see, and JUST the cars that are affected by the current changes. If you're not sure about something, look it up!

R1 - no change

M0 & S0 - Adding AS cars. So, these cars are moving from M1 to M0 or from S1 to S0:
  • BMW M3 & M4 (2015+)
  • Newer super special edition Camaros
  • Corvette (2001+)
  • Dodge Viper
  • Nissan 350/370 Nismo
  • Pontiac Solstice GXP
  • Saturn Sky Turbo
  • Lots of fast Porsches
M1 & S1 - Adding CS cars. So, these cars are moving from M2 to M1 or from S2 to S1:
  • BMW - All of the rest of the M's, M Coupe, M Roadster, Z3, Z4, etc.
  • Corvette (pre-1982)
  • Miata (2006+)
  • RX-8
  • Nissan 350
  • Boxster (1997-2004)
  • FRS / BRZ / 86 - (2017+) and special packages
  • MR2 Turbo
S2 - This class lost CS, leaving it with just DS:
  • Lots of Audis
  • Lots of non-M BMW's
  • Newer Non-V8 Camaro
  • Newer Non-V8 Challenger & Charger
  • Newer Non-V8 Mustang
  • Non-V8 Genesis Coupe
  • Infiniti G35
  • Lots of Lexus
  • MINI Cooper S & JCW variants
  • BRZ / FRS / 86
  • WRX (not STI)
  • Golf R (pre-2014)
M2 - This class lost CS, leaving it with DS and FS:
  • All of the cars listed for S2 above (DS cars)
  • Most anything that you'd consider to be a "muscle car"
M3 & M4 - No classing changes, just tire width reduced to 205 in M4.

S3, S4 & S5 - No change.

Hmmmm you listed s2000 being an AS class. I believe it's BS class and the s2000 CR is AS.

Good catch! So, the standard S2000 is staying where it is. I'll drop it from the list.
