We had a good time at the Wild Rover last week. Great food, even better prices, didn't hear any complaints about the beer, and excellent music at a pleasant volume. And they DO have a covered patio.
So, look for us on the patio from about 7-10pm.
Post if you're coming!

Monday is Memorial Day. I have the day off, but no plans other than going to a movie. I'll be here if anyone else is coming. Can meet earlier if you want.
Can probably bring Cathy's NC out for a public appearance.

Hmmm... spend $10 on a shepherd's pie, or hang out at Perkin's with a bunch of cheap Vets.
Tough call.
You can come visit us after your late afternoon free breakfast, Doug.

So if I bring my British wife and the "funny" Dan from GB shows up you will live up to your expectations? Highly doubt it.Loren wrote:Hmmm... spend $10 on a shepherd's pie, or hang out at Perkin's with a bunch of cheap Vets.

We're talking "real" Brits.

I can't judge what is or isn't "real" British food, but Dan was pretty impressed with the menu, and didn't complain about the food. Something about there being "HP sauce" on the table. And Colman's mustard. The place is actually run by Brits.

Actually Loren you are a very good gauge of how good any restaurant is. That is good that Dan didn't complain but most English Brit's I've met wouldn't seriously complain about anything. I saw one of wife's friends sit and wait for nearly 1.5hrs for toast and beans which is an appetizer consisting of beans and toast for pete's sake. She never said a peep. I keep asking her if each bean is indivually cookedLoren wrote:I can't judge what is or isn't "real" British food, but Dan was pretty impressed with the menu, and didn't complain about the food. Wife is looking forward to having some authentic British food there without having to make it herself. We'll see you Monday about 7ish. The real test to me is the Plowman's Lunch. In Purley it was awesome in a little café. Never found a good one here yet. Always hope.

There are three "English style pubs" that I know of around here. This one, the one over on Alt-19 in Palm Harbor, and the one over by Ruth Eckerd. This one seems like it might be the most authentic, but all of them have some legit dishes on the menu.
See you tomorrow!

Heh. My wife's actually more of a foodie than I am. She blogs a lot of the places we go (especially if we go somewhere new/different): http://mymilliways.com/
But, you won't see her at FAST Monday. Car talk bores her to tears. Even though I've assured her that we talk about other things, and are doing our part to solve all of the world's problems... she ain't buyin' it.
That said, I still might steal her Miata.

I joined in the FAST maiden voyage to Wild Rover last week and was impressed with the choice of British dishes on the menu. Their own microbrew beer was good too.twistedwankel wrote:

Having only been once, I can't comment on many of the food offerings but the sausage roll was good as well as the chicken curry. It was a pretty authentic "pub curry" since the flavor of a curry in most British pubs is distinctly different from a curry in an Indian restaurant.
And before anyone says hey chicken curry doesn't sound like traditional British food, curry is so popular in Britain that chicken tikka masala was voted as a national dish of Britain a few years ago.
Anyhow, I 'm looking forward to going back for another FAST Monday and trying some more of the food there soon. Can't make it today unfortunately, but plan to be back sooner rather than later. Let me know how the ploughmans works out as that is also on my radar for a future visit. The service was friendly and their prices are extremely reasonable too!
And Loren, thanks for the link to your wife's blog, I must have easily lost an hour browsing through. She has a pretty comprehensive coverage of restaurants in the surrounding area, some I've visited, many I've never heard of. Will have to try a few based on the reviews! It's good to see reviews on such a variety of American and international cuisine!

That's because no one with an appetite eats "traditional British food"...the whole reason the British set out and forged a global empire was in search of something good to eat!dbeng wrote:And before anyone says hey chicken curry doesn't sound like traditional British food, curry is so popular in Britain that chicken tikka masala was voted as a national dish of Britain a few years ago.
