M4 - The wild frontier

Postby Loren » Mon Oct 09, 2017 10:30 am

Some of y'all should really be taking advantage of M4. LOTS of cars could be eligible for it.

People from S4, S5 and M3 should be thinking about it. Soraya needs company! 8-)

Tempting, but mod class involves throwing more money at my car. Maybe next season once I've upgraded the performance of the seat warmer.

You've already got 60% more power than Soroya has. And only 20% more weight. I'm officially calling you out. :P

I'm actually on the fence about moving to M4, myself. I think S5 is a better fit for my car, but I don't want to see NOBODY running in M4... and S5 seems to have a good following this season.

I mean if we're talking literally NOBODY, I can get myself some springs, play around with parts, and enjoy the easy stickers all season.

And I'm technically already out of stock in SCCA because I took my visors out. :snicker:

M4 - The wild frontier

Last season, M4 was primarily Soraya, Ben and Steve with Mike Redmond for half the season, and a group of various others who didn't do more than about 2 or 3 events each.

This season, Ben is playing in S4. I think Steve is playing in S5. That leaves Soroya. And if there's no competition in M4, even she might abandon the class for some competition in M3.

I'd prefer not to see that happen. M4 and S5 are my babies. I want to see them thrive with people having fun in slow cars!

Brant, doesn't your car have limited slip? If so, then it's M3...

If I ever get my Fahrvergnügen back, I could just jump up to M4 (unless Bill's upped the tire size or added limited slip).

nope and I will be there on the 21st both sessions. Also hope to have a neighbor join us in the afternoon as a spectator.

Loren you should. You've got the coilovers already. Why not leverage them 7 days a week? :)

Woops. Never looked too closely at modified classes. Didn't realize there was one less. Thanks for the correction.

But, but... I spent like an extra hundred bucks to get/modify the parts I needed to be able to run that coilover kit with stock springs!

I sorta wonder just how much difference it would make to lower the car 1.5-2". The coilover kit springs are marginally stiffer, as well. Surely some improvement. But, the car already gets around like the FASTiva did... flat-out almost everywhere. How much faster can it get without adding power? (and I don't have the budget to add any power)

I'm still on the fence. If the Mirage was woefully uncompetitive in S5, the decision would be easier. But, it's actually holding its own pretty well so far, and the setup is nowhere near optimized, and I'm still figuring out how it wants to be driven.

M4 needs some love, though.

nope
M4...hmm...
A quick check of last year's results, when I started running Bill's 'wagen for points in M4 after I coldly turned my back on Loren and Ben and the fading Fastiva, it looks like Soroya beat me by anywhere from 1.5 - 3 seconds. Since then, I think Bill's added some tasty front camber plates, and might have some stickier tires waiting in the wings... hmm...
