Long story short:

Howard has found a buyer for our old trailer who is in Melbourne. Catch is, he wants the trailer delivered.

$100. to whoever feels like towing it over there. Melbourne is about a 6 hour round trip (from St. Pete, less from points East), give or take.

Anyone interested?

Um... at 15 mpg (typical tow vehicle) and $4/gallon... that will barely cover gas.

(no wonder the guy wants it delivered)

I figgered 15 mpg there, 25 back (no trailer) - for an average of 20 mpg over 340 miles (or less if starting East of St. Pete) at $4. that's $68, plus a little extra for lunch or something. If there's no takers, we won't sell it to this guy, but if we can get rid of it, that would be good.

Is he offering us something to deliver it? Or at least paying our asking price for it without haggling?

It's probably worth paying what it takes to entice someone to deliver the thing and get it out of our hair. But, depending on whom that is and what they're driving... $100 might not be enough.

I'm stilling seeing this club as functioning on volunteerism, which often enough has included donations of more than time, but if $100 isn't enough, it's negotiable.

You are correct - for some reason I have a mental block on that point - often.

I guess the delivery can't wait until September, otherwise I'd do it.

Probably closer to 8-10mpg/14-16mpg with anything that can tow that old trailer that far. Thats an average of 12mpg or ~ $115 just in gas.

Maybe I'm off and Bill can correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think anyone has ever seen 15mpg pulling that trailer unless someone has a diesel I don't know about.

If he's willing, why not? Why inconvenience ourselves?

I think part of the deal was for it to be delivered, the buyer may not want it if he has to come and get it. Maybe we can meet him half way?

The trailer will be empty at least, which should make it a little easier to tow, granted it's still a large brick on wheels, but still less weight to tow.

That's about what the Expedition was getting, depeding on windage.

I'll tell Howard the best we can do is find someone to meet half-way (whereever that may be), or we can take $ off the price and he can come get it.

If neither goes, I guess we'll just keep trying to unload it.

Or scratch the VIN off and "park" it on the shoulder of I-275. It would fit right in with all the other "parked" cars on the shoulder.

The guy buying the trailer has agreed to meet halfway. He suggested Lake Wales as a halfway point. I don't want to post his number so whoever is going to meet him should call or e mail me and I will give the number. I also will need to give you the paperwork for the trailer as well.
