Groj Day - April 27 @ Loren's

Postby Loren » Sun Apr 21, 2019 12:42 pm

This will be day #2 of paint prep for the Miata. But, I also have plenty of space for other minor projects, maintenance, oil changes, whatever.

If anyone who has a fender roller can make this one, I do need to get the fenders rolled before painting it.

WHEN: Saturday, April 27 - 9:30am-4:30pm

WHAT: Miata body work... or perhaps whatever YOU need to do as long as it's nothing major. I have plenty of driveway space, tools and knowledge. Fluid changes, brakes, other minor maintenance are all doable.

WHERE: My garage in Safety Harbor, PM me if you need the address.

WHO: Me and Chris at a minimum. Anyone else is welcome to come watch & learn, help, hang out, heckle, whatever.

There will be fresh baked cookies on-hand. And, of course, we'll always find something to do for lunch. Nutrition is important.

Please reply if you plan to attend. And if you have any work to do, that would also be good to know. 8-)

The ST is due for an oil change, and maybe rear brake pads. Of course all this happening depends on homework as usual.

I was gone most of the day, anyway. Went out for an early lunch, taught some driving, and then out to dinner.

But, I'll be there Saturday. You can come see if your bike fits in the back of a Mirage.

Missed burgers because of work. Do we have a fender roller yet?

How's the gooey tape removal coming along?

See you Saturday

Fender roller and heat gun are on-hand! Gracias to Soraya for delivering it. Hopefully, I'll remember who actually owns it.

Uh... gooey tape... right. Well, it didn't happen last week. But, I do have tomorrow. :thumbwink:

Got the tape off of the right side rocker panels today. What a pain in the ass! Goo-Gone didn't touch it. I swear the material that stuff is made of is Kevlar mixed with Teflon! No solvent gets through it, so the glue remains intact unless you physically get UNDER the stuff. The only thing I found that worked was isopropyl alcohol and a thumbnail... and I was running out of thumbnail! Finally, I tried a razor blade scraper with a blade dull enough to not dig into the paint, but effectively get through the tape. The other side should go a little quicker.

With a little luck, I may have a new bumper cover sans foglight holes tomorrow. Maybe some scratch-free windows and a few other doo-dads, as well.

Anybody else coming Saturday?

Cookie of the day is fresh-baked Oatmeal Craisin. OMG, they're good!

What? Oh, yeah... we'll be working on cars and stuff, too.

Groj Day - April 27 @ Loren's

It was a weird kind of day. Only me and Chris there working on the Miata, but had people coming and going throughout the day! Charlie Thompson came to pick up the side skirts, and ended up buying the Borla muffler, too. Sally Finney came to pick up her window regulator. Bill Flowers came by to return my Scangauge that he'd borrowed a while back. And Dave O'neil came by to hang out for a bit.

It didn't "feel" like a super productive day, but a lot of necessary things got done. The fenders are flared, all the sticky stuff that was holding the side skirts on has been removed, and about a third of the body filling is done. Moving right along! We'll be at it again in a couple weeks.

I think the last time Bill showed up at an autocross, he was in a Jaguar X-Type (aka, a Ford). Since then, he's been through a more sporting Jag that I never even saw, and then he got an RV and some kind of big Jeep that he tows behind it. He's keeping busy, it seems.
