Sep 7 Pointless Lakeland event
Wow, that was a marathon. Many thanks to all the courseworkers who manned their posts for about 90 minutes per group - all day.
To the teardown crew and Ben and everyone else who helped pack up: Thank you!
To Bill and Rachel: hope y'all had a great time. Congrats, Bill, for your Member of the Year coup, and Rachel for your first event!
To Joe Vance: we have your sprayer in the trailer.
To the guy who asked me to put the sound meter on your son's (I think) car: Was happy to do that, but after you asked, you never checked back. All you autocrossers look alike (hat, tshirt, sunglasses), so I didn't know who to look for. I walked by the car at one point, (I think) but no one was around. Tell your son that if he wants to enter an event, but he's concerned about his car's exhaust sound level, our rules allow the first time is a "freebie" - but if we measure and it's too loud, please plan to come back next time quieter.
To the guy driving the Exocet: I forgot to track you down, but I have to tell you your car is too loud. Measured over 101 db. We'd love to have you back, but please try something to hush the pipes just a bit.
To everyone: if you have special requests - such as a work assignment, or class change, the best bet is to add a note when you register. If something comes up after it's too late, let us know your needs when you get to the event. Don't wait until the last minute, like, say, asking for a specific work assignment while we're in the process of handing out assignments and trying to get workers out to position so we can start the run group. That just makes everyone wait - either in line for the assignments, or afterwards, as we can't start the group until workers are in place, and last-minute juggling may not always be a simple process.
To the guy who asked for a specific work assignment while we're in the process of handing out assignments and trying to get workers out to position so we can start the run group: yeah, I got testy. I apologize for being short. For future reference, please see paragraph above. (and yeah, making the change "wasn't that bad, was it?" because by sheer dumb luck, I happened to look at the assignment list, and the two changes that had to be made to accommodate your request were right there on subsequent lines).
To the two drivers who left after driving and skipped out on your work assignments: we know who you are. Your actions are so not in the spirit of autocross. Shame.

Again? What is it about Lakeland events that we are getting this now?
Registration had a radio, they should not be allowing anyone to leave mid-event.
We cannot run an event without everyone doing their fair share. If you expect someone else to do your share, we are going to charge you for that.
Need to add to event details," if you leave without working your assignment, you will be charged double."
Perma-ban is a given. And, of course need to be stricken from results.
We should also share their info with the other clubs so they will not be able to affect their events going forward as well.
IMO anyone guilty of this will have run their last autocross around here ever.

Had a good amount of odd happenings out there today. The red flag scenario was wild. Haven't seen that one before. Yeesh.
Thank to the FAST leadership. Looked like a challenging event to keep on track but they managed it.
The course was a blast to drive. Though I miss Brooksville, the variety the new site offers is a welcome change. Lastly, its sooooo @^#%@^%# HOT. "Winter" can't get here fast enough.

I'm tired and grumpy and probably wouldn't say anything nice, so I'm not gonna say much.
The course was a BLAST if you were looking ahead. Thanks to all those who deserve thanks, which is almost everyone!

Yeah...I caused one of those red flags...overshot the entry to the sweeper after the slalom and thought I could get back on course after the wall. I realized later that we closed up that wall during setup. Ran all the way around the back side/outside the wall... Oops.JasonS wrote:The red flag scenario was wild.

I think my integra works well at lakeland, it is easy to get the rear end to rotate and it feels predictable and none of the banging off the 2nd gear limiter I get at the runway courses. Though it needs a better driver
I enjoyed the course, it rewarded you if you for looking just ahead enough while also being able to carry more speed than it seems. Took me 4 course walks and instructing in the first run group to get the nunances. Even then some parts still would catch me by surprise or confuse me. Still kicking myself for screwing up the last turn around before the finish while going through the green cones, last two runs I completely screw it up by driving to make it tighter than it should after doing it right on my second run.

Third run was my best, lowered air pressures for the 4th run and slowed down. Setup changes for this season helped: Smaller front sway bar and increased ride height.

Thank you FAST for the recognition at the event. It was my pleasure to help out with the venue search, and I've also enjoyed the journey to Dunnellon tremendously.
My daughter Rachel had a good time and I was of course delighted she took a swing at it. More family waiting in the wings.
I really enjoyed the course though I was fearing dnf on my first run. We walked the course like sheep, following folks who knew it better than us.
My best run was my last, caught that right sweep to the backside just right. Wouldn't you know it though, Steve immediately clipped me by a tenth on his eighth run [emoji48]. Sorry Steve, payback for those tripod pictures [emoji16]

Joe V was killing it yesterday, came down to the last runs in M3 to decide the winner. Nice job! And congrats to Daniel on another FTD. I liked the course, good use of space and nice variety of elements. I was stoked to finally get in the 34s in fun runs, then bummed that I left that much time on the table for competition runs
Thanks again to the whole FAST crew for another great event!
