2006 Awards get-together

Postby Native » Sun Jan 21, 2007 7:33 pm

Looks like most folks were interested in going out, having something to eat/drink/both, bs about cars a bit, and hand out the trophy shirts from '06.

I guess the next step is to decide when and where.

I know I need a little notice, so I'm thinking during the week of the 29th - it's gonna be really hard to coordinate everyone's schedule, so I'll suggest either Monday 1/29, or Friday 2/2. around dinner time...

As for where, I'm afraid I don't get out much - can anyone suggest a place that's centrally located (St. Pete/Clearwater) where we might be able to reserve a room, or at least be off in a corner to ourselves?

Feb 2nd is free for me, the other date is not.....either way, I live on the other side of creation from most of you guys so I'll see what's going on when the time rolls around.

Im good for either date. Any ideas for a start time? I'll throw out 7 since thats about how long it will take me to get to the area after work.

7 is a good time for me, too.

And again, this event is open club-wide, so anyone with any thoughts feel free to chime in.

Ok, so we're looking at Friday, Feb. 2, at 7 pm.

So, Ryan, where do you think we should meet?

I'm less qualified to plan a party than I am to run an autocross club, so I'll need some help with this one.

I dunno, this is only my 3rd week in florida. There is a place called Livingstons in sarasota that has a big get together/dining room, bar and, slick track go karts. But thats probably quite a drive for most guys.

Barnacles in Brandon can host quite a few people inside or out. They regularly host our weekly VW meet which can vary from 10-30 people every wednesday. Good food, hundreds of TV's, and lots of room. Give them a call.

Here's a quote from AOL Cityguide

Get off the couch! There's a better place to watch TV -- Barnacles sailed onto the scene and swiftly became a hot spot in town. You won't miss a play with 455 televisions and 12 big screens beaming every televised sporting event you can imagine. This place is massive, with state-of-the-art video games, pool tables and even a dance floor to keep you busy.

The food is made from scratch daily and is nothing short of perfect, with an emphasis on seafood. A variety of people pack this place, but even on Friday nights there's only a short wait because of the sheer size of the place. Barnacles shifts into nightclub mode weekend nights, with a DJ, live entertainment and lots of booty shaking. Try the Lobster Claw game: Catch a live lobster with the mechanical claw and the kitchen will cook it up for free.

ok, Barnacles is one possibility.
I was thinking of Carmelita's Mexican in Clearwater - East Bay and 19. Pretty big place, good food...

any other suggestions?

Barnacle's sounds a little too "busy" for this kind of thing. We need to be able to talk to the group, talk about stuff, hand out the awards... all of that hints towards someplace that's fairly quiet.

Carmelita's would work. Pretty centrally located, too.

I think that's a really good idea - it's a big enough place, shouldn't be too terribly crowded on Thurs., the wings beat the hell out of Hooters, good scenery, and Ulmerton is really easy to get to no matter where you are coming from.

Let's say it's a done deal:

Winghouse 7491 Ulmerton Rd. Clearwater
Thurs. Feb. 1st, 7 pm.

We'll hang out, eat-drink-oogle, and pass out a few trophy shirts!

pass the word...

Absolutely. Any trophy winners who can't make it just let me know, and we'll figure out a way to get your shirts to you! 8)

Sorry you won't be able to make it out - I'll have one for ya :D

address update - I was double-checking the address and found a slightly different one - 7369 Ulmerton. Regardless, it's on Ulmerton between Belcher and 66th St.
