Battle-X Final Prep

Postby Loren » Sun Oct 26, 2008 1:16 pm

Registration wraps up tomorrow evening, and I'll start putting the tournament brackets and worker assignment lists together Tuesday. Looks like we're going to have less than 40 entries, which means that we can't cut any slack on work assignments. 6 worker stations, grid and pre-staging workers, judges and a starter... it will take nearly 20 people to run each group. That said, we'll still need a handful of volunteers to come early and stay late to help with set-up and tear-down. If you can, try to plan on doing one or the other (or both if you're a glutton). Also, be aware that the final rounds will require a full staff of VOLUNTEER workers from the ranks of those who didn't make it to the finals, so please plan on that.

Remember that this isn't your typical autocross, we need everyone to be there no later than 9am (earlier if you want to help set up... we'll get started around 7:30am) and the drivers meeting will begin promptly at 9:30am.

The estimated schedule is:
Driver's Meeting 9:30am-10:00am
Group 1 Practice 10:00am-11:00am
Group 2 Practice 11:15am-12:15pm
Lunch 12:15pm-1:00pm
Group 1 Brackets 1:00pm-2:15pm
Group 2 Brackets 2:30pm-3:45pm
Finals 4:00pm-5:00pm

Now, I'd like to hand it over to Dave Balogh and Brian Kollar who will be handling the "mundane" event chairman tasks like supplies and lunch and such. We WILL need some marble dust to line the course if someone can pick that up, and if someone would pick up a pair of cheap-but-functional stopwatches when they head to the store for water or whatever, it would save me a trip. Other than that, I'll leave it in your capable hands. Thanks!

We have working stopwatches. I know because I cleaned off the fire extinguisher discharge last month and checked to see if they still worked...We've got 2 or 3 of them.

Marble dust is easiest obtained at "Allen's Sporting Goods" on Alt. 19 in Seminole. 50lb bags - we'd need 2-3 of them. Anyone coming from that direction?

I'm your huckleberry. ( great line from "Tombstone".... cf. short lived idiom not used much after 1890... basically means I'm the man for the job)

My office is about 4 blocks away.

Dave & Brian's job just keeps getting easier! (not to mention mine)

So, no need to purchase stopwatches, and Huckleberry's got the dust. Just need beverages and lunch, I guess.

Oh, and I mention that you two will be running the whole show while Ron and I are running? :) I might have left that out. ;) Don't worry, it's easy.

Let me know if you need me to pick up cases of water or what ever. Tell me how many of what, and I'll bring it. I can pick up ice too if needed.

Loren, as usual I will be there (relatively) early with the trailer, and will be there until the bitter end. So assign me to whatever needs to be done.

However, I am out of town all week (returning Friday) so if it requires something to be picked up that probably isn't a good assignment.

Tech will be done in the staging lane before you go out for your first practice run.

help

Postby meicalnissyen » Mon Oct 27, 2008 3:38 pm

Happy to Tech with Jack, or anything else as always. Just say jump, I'm all about how high.

Also, this seems to be running very tight in the simulator, likely cuz the distance units are off. I used the skid pad dimensions to convert to meters, then scaled the rest of the course map, into the live for speed autoX sim even so, by running it a couple hundred times in each direction I am doing my part to SUCK LESS

Oh no, I'll be the first on that list. Don't you worry. All the other guys in my class can outdrive me with stubs for hands.

I'll be happy to do whatever during the day. I enjoyed my spotter assignment last time :)

Okay, registration is officially closed. I accepted one final entrant today, Elliot Harvey. He'll be running in class E. (figured Ron needed some competition, cuz he sure ain't gettin' it from me!)

I've got the worker list sorted out. Here it is:
http://wedrivefast.com/Portals/0/Battle" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ... erList.pdf

If anyone feels they can't complete their assigned task, let me know. Tech inspection will be done as people line up to take their first practice runs and will be done by grid, staging and co-chairmen... whoever's standing around and available.

Time to start working on the grids...

I'll be getting drinks this week. 5 24 packs of water and 8-10 cases of soda (mixed)? Should be more than enough for this smaller event plus some left over I would think, but I've never handled the drinks before since I never had a large enough car, so does sound about right? Too much? Too little?

For food, I wouldn't mind something different, looking into that now. Worse case we at least have the normal options....

I'd lean toward more water than soda. But, it's going to be coolish, so we won't be going through it like we have been. For drinks, don't go overboard with diet drinks, and stick with name brand stuff.

Lunch: Different is good. And we will be taking about a 45-minute break for lunch.

I'm here, I'll handle lunch duties, I hope everyone likes the House Of Tofu, they have great wheat soup. 8) I know everyone is sick of Pizza, and we can do the sandwich thing from Publix. What's the per person lunch budget? If it's enough I could get BBQ or Gyros and Salad or any type of party platter from a decent restaurant.

Dave I can get the drinks if you can't, I can load them up in my Honda or van easy enough, let me know.

So the marble dust is covered. What else needs to be done other than drinks, ice and food? I know Dave and I can handle the duties while Loren and Ron are running.

Let me know what else needs to be covered. I'm still in SC but should be home late Wednesday night.

I also am available to pick up ice/drinks. Let me know how much of what if you want me to. We'll be there between 7:00 and 7:30 and can help set up as well.
