Smokin' prices indeed...... too bad they don't have my size or I might have bought a set to store.

I see the RE11's in 255/40/17 shows up as:
* Estimated Availability: 03/06/09
$231 each

Pretty sure I'll stick with the Dunlops...... for ~$65 less per tire.

That is a good sale. Comparing new tire to new tire, what is the general opinion of how an Azenis 615 compares to the the Potenza RE-01R? Relative to autocross use of course..

I think Charles ran those on his Saabaru wagon before he sold it. They seemed to run pretty well.

Yup, also ran them on the 240 on the 16" wheels

The consensus is that 01r > Azenis

I've competed on Azenis, RE-01R and Star Specs. They stack up in that order. The RE-01s are clearly better than the Azenis, and I think the Star Specs are slightly better than the RE-01s.

But, for the price... get a set of those RE-01s if they'll fit your car!

FYI - I read elsewhere that their current inventory might be better than indicated online (ie. other sizes available). Worth a call if you're shopping. Rumor is they are accepting back-orders too for more inventory coming in March...

You are correct! I tried to order a set for my Mazda but at check-out, they showed up as out of stock. I called them and they put me down for a set coming in March. 225/45/18 for $78 per tire!!!!

Aaron, at that price you should pick up a set for your MS3 and store 'em!!

Mary wants to keep 'learning' on her slippery Azenis for now. Probably the right decision, but wow. I hate to let that deal go by.

Buy 'em, bag 'em, stuff 'em in a dark closet somewhere. They'll keep.

$78 is cheap for 15" tires... pretty fantastic for 18's!

Toying with the idea of doing the same for my Z, the rears are almost to the treadwear bar but fronts have plenty left on them.

I think 01r's are kind of overkill for even spirited daily driving but even in my 225/45/18 + 245/45/18's they are a lot cheaper than most average summer tires I'll have to buy eventually.

Or wait and pick up some base model 370z takeoffs in a few months since the previous owner of this car loved to curb the wheels

I think you're right. The 01R's, the Star Specs... hell, even Azenis... they're all far grippier than any sane person needs on the street. They make you feel almost invincible, and you'd have to be stupid to really try to explore their limits on a public road.

But, that makes them great dual-purpose tires... which is what we all have wanted for years. There are finally tires that are streetable that aren't completely disappointing at an autocross or race track. 8)

I must have talked to a different person at the 'Rack. I was told that they would not be able to take my order. Apparently, Bridgestone is sending ALL of their RE-01 inventory to Tire Rack to rid them before the new models. They are expecting the closeout shipment on 3/6. However, our size in particular received more orders than will be able to be filled. Hell, I'd buy eight of them at that price if I could! Good luck with your order. I may try to call tomorrow just in case there is another story... However, the representative was able to find a few of the 205/45/17's...for my bro's Mazda.

Mary's arrived yesterday! Both sets have a 2008 mfg. date! She came home all smiles telling me that she didn't break loose on a corner she usually does  Guess she like's 'em. Might have to take a look at her driving record though.....
