Cracked Windshield
Will my car still pass tech with a fairly good size crack in the windshield? The glass people came by today but had issues with the install. I actually have my windows taped cause he removed the weatherstripping then found the rusted screws. I've got to call back tomorrow to see when they can finish it. The install guy thinks they won't be able to get to it till Monday, which will REALLY set me off. I might have to do some calling around tomorrow.

Whoo hooo. I know it won't shatter, but I do know it'll grow if I can't get it taken care off. I'm sure I'll be on the phone damn near all day trying to rectify the situation anyway. Now, let's go see how much water I got in my car last night...hopefuly all the tape held up.Native wrote:To the letter of our insurance, it's not ruled out.

Re: Cracked Windshield
Well, sunday should be interesting. The windsheild people found rust on the cross post just above the a-piller on the drivers side. I have to have that tended to before they'll install the windshield. Testing the Kumhos in the morning to see if I'll be in group B or F. If the kumhos are all used up, I may shoot down for job assignment for setup and duck out as I'll have to have my vette home before it rains and tape it up as I have no windshield molding till I get this stinking thing fixed. Oh the life of an older car...I'll post in the event forum Saturday once I know more.

Re: Cracked Windshield
Well now, hold on - it wasn't a complete green light...I know you're not going to put a cone through your windshield, but is this a crack that's bad enough that once your rusted heap starts to bend and flex in the turns that the windshield is just gonna blow? That we can't have...although it would be pretty cool...shakedown067 wrote:Whoo hooo. I know it won't shatter, but I do know it'll grow if I can't get it taken care off. Re: Cracked Windshield
Nope, the windshield is fine. I asked the windshield people about driving and autocrossing the car. The rust...they don't want to touch it incase it goes further down under the windshield. If it does, a body shop will have to repair it so it doesn't get any worse. The rust isn't horrible, but needs to be addressed. The windshield isn't going anywhere until a professional takes it off. If I thought it would endanger anyone else, or myself, I'd leave the car at home. I was told it would be more than fine.Native wrote:Well now, hold on - it wasn't a complete green light...I know you're not going to put a cone through your windshield, but is this a crack that's bad enough that once your rusted heap starts to bend and flex in the turns that the windshield is just gonna blow? Re: Cracked Windshield
Man what an ordeal. Finally got her all back together Friday afternoon, although they didn't put back on the lower windshield hold downs or the wiper arms. Won't be dealing with SafeLite ever again.

They did a craptastic job replacing the door window on my Yaris, as well. (how can you screw up something so simple?)

Re: Cracked Windshield
Rip out the windshield and use a full face helmet with tear offs. That should get you bye temporarily.
