5-16-10 post event
Great event guys sorry I drove so poorly. Food. It was good, of course having lived in Tampa for 7 years now I'm ofically cubaned out. They were good, I'm just over them.
The good.
Smooth event everyone had a good time.
Good flowing but technical course
The bad
my only complaint and it's not even a complaint as much as it's a preference. Is that we try in the morning to get started quicker. Like I said just a preference but i'd like to suggest we set time goals 9:30 drivers meeting 10:00 first car off etc. It was a really long hot day and would have loved to have it be 1/2 hour shorter.

Yeah, that was my bad not getting things moving a tad quicker. It jumps from 9:00 to 10:00 in a hurry. Glad you liked the course. It certainly was a fun day. Sorry folks, no photos today, the downfall of being the coordinator. I certainly learned a lot on my first go around heading up an event.

Re: 5-16-10 post event
I think you put together a great event Eric. We got 69 drivers 6 runs with a lunch break and done by what, about 4? Not bad at all. I really enjoyed all the friendly competition (sorry, Bob, not this time...but it was quite close
) and I hope everybody enjoyed themselves.
We had 6 folks stick around to help clean up and put back the police course (&$#!&@ police course and their stupid @$@!%%# red dots), and that made a huge difference in cleanup time. Thanks to all of you for helping with arguably the worst job of the day.
RJ - the Cubans rocked - you really packed 'em full of the good stuff and gave us a great deal. Thanks again! And while I don't get out to Brandon too often, next time I do I'm certainly gonna check out your establishment.
And we'll get the results up as soon as we can 8)

Re: 5-16-10 post event
I seem to remember this topic coming up before. We can move things up, but it'll take some changes. Another pair of hands or two on course setup, and keeping people off the course until it's set up, checked, and chalked. Moving the on-site registration cutoff back to 8:30, or even 8. And then I'll guarantee some people will want to use that time for extra runs...of course, cutting back runs is another way of shortening the day. Pick your poison.treekiller wrote:my only complaint and it's not even a complaint as much as it's a preference. Is that we try in the morning to get started quicker. Break...
We did the turnover between groups 3 and 4 in under five minutes, which was great. Running four groups helped, since the incoming work group was ready to go, but we can make quick turnovers like this even with three groups if people park their cars and get to it...the gear's all out there, so it's just a matter of moving smartly. And coursework today was generally pretty good. Thanks to everyone.

Re: 5-16-10 post event
Great event Eric and gang!
Course was flowing with challenges-ranks with one of the better ones at SPC. (yes a bit Corvette friendly too
)
Lunch was excellent-even the packaging was quick and convenient.
Timely...yes slightly tardy for green flag...admittedly I was 15 minutes late for set up so...blame it on complacency!
I will say I'm not sold on the 4 groups...quick turn times for each run has its advantages and disadvantages. Appreciative to those that put that effort into the calculations. Seems like we had more runs with less run groups during previous events-I recall getting upto 12 runs (not that I would want that many!), but that might be when we had fewer entrants...not a significant concern.
FAST makes things enjoyable and low threat-kudos to the group.

Re: 5-16-10 post event
We never got 12 runs with 70 people! Number of runs really isn't a function of the run groups. More groups potentially means more time spent in turnover, but the idea is that if workers are ready to go (having been on break), rather than running from car to work assignment, we can shorten turnover time and make some of that back.Tim_M wrote:I will say I'm not sold on the 4 groups...quick turn times for each run has its advantages and disadvantages. Honestly, the number of runs has more to due with keeping the run group to around an hour, to avoid heatstroke out on the worker stations. Course overlap probably plays the largest role there -- overlap determines how fast we can put cars on course. Today, overlap was pretty much non-existent, but the short course meant a car off about every 30-35 seconds. That's about two cars a minute...about 9 minutes to turn a run for 17 cars (the average group size today)...7 runs in an hour. In fact, we were turning a complete run cycle in about 10 minutes, so we kept it to 6 runs. If we could have launched a car every 20 seconds, that would have shortened the run cycle to 6-7 minutes...could add two more runs. That's tough (not impossible) to do at SPC, though, because it's not just the crossovers, but keeping cars apart where the course folds back on itself. We've done it at Brooksville before on medium-sized courses where the crossover is at about 20 seconds, or on longer courses with no crossover.

Re: 5-16-10 post event
Even though I only had one clean run, I still had a great time at the event today. Thank you to everyone that put time into making it all come together.
I would also like to apologize to whoever was working station four during run group two. I honestly wasn’t hitting cones just to give you guys something to do. Apparently, I need to learn how to slow that silly 1.8 litter down. Thanks again for cleaning up my mess.
Chris- thanks for pulling over to check on me on the way home. That was a real nice thing to do.
See you all in June!

Awsome event. Loved the course eric, it was fun. Now if i could just get it through my head that sometimes using less gas at the right time would make me faster.......ahh, going sideways is fun! Yellow_Colorz_PDT_02

Re: 5-16-10 post event
Thank you for another great, event.
Jamie, I really appreciate you accomadating me. It was very important that I start working on some computers at 3pm. If you hadn't have done that, I would have missed my run group. Thank you.
About the course, I liked the wide turn-arounds at either end. It's hard to drive those just right. Additionally, the only real braking area was tricky as well, at least for my car/tires. I never really got through it without some understeer hindering me.
I had no idea, of course, how I did in class until results were posted. Thanks for posting so quickly. I'm happy with the results! Now, I need 2 more like that. We'll see how it goes, I guess.
I've learned my lesson, and I'm already registered for the next event.

I think I left my water bottle near the trailer. It is stainless steel and yellow. Hopefully it got thrown into the trailer.

Congrats Charles, on the FTD, that's 2 in a row, right?
I set a personal best in the "by Time" results. Yay, me!
In addition to Jeremy's "water", did anyone take note of how much soda and water were left for next month? any marble dust left?

Here's the last of the supplies that I saw.
Oh, and everyone can thank me for the rain this morning. I got lazy and left the slicks on the car last night. Had to drive to the mechanic's (getting some seals replaced before they start actually leaking) nice and slow this morning...luckily everyone else was doing 35mph on ulmerton too.
