The FROC will be run in conjunction with the May autocross, adding maybe a dozen runs to each run group, interspersed with the other runs. You'll have to be paying close attention to even realize that it's happening!
The purpose of the FROC is merely to have a little fun and establish bragging rights as to who is the best of the best among FAST drivers. It eliminates factors such as horsepower, suspension, tires, brakes and anything to do with the car by putting every driver not just in a similarly prepared car (a la IROC), but in THE same car on the same course.
FROC Rules:
- No Whining - We're doing this for fun, don't take it too seriously.
- Eligibility - Eligible drivers are: Any FAST member who is registered for the May event. Last season's class award winners (1st, 2nd or 3rd place), drivers who have finished 1st or 2nd in class at least two events this season, limited others as approved by the event chairman. Must be registered for the May event. (see rule #1)
- Entry - Pre-register by notifying Loren of your desire to compete. Pay Loren $20 cash at the event. This money goes to cover car expenses and award money. (Prize money?) (Yes, prize money.) If we can get our crap together, there may even be limited-edition FROC t-shirts.
- The Car - The FROC car will be Jeff Lloyd's Miata equipped with automatic transmission and all-season tires of undetermined pedigree. The car will be prepared and maintained throughout the day by Jeff, to include tire pressures. (subject to change if necessary, see rule #1) Competitors merely get the car and drive!
- Competition - FROC Competitors will take their FROC runs in their "off" heat (the run group that they are not assigned to drive or work) so as to not interfere with their normal runs or the flow of the event. Competitors should be available near the FROC car and ready to run at the beginning of the heat to ensure that all runs are completed as quickly as possible while allowing for cool-down. (see #7 and rule #1)
- Number of Runs - Each FROC Competitor will be allowed two runs in the FROC car. Reruns will be permitted when deemed necessary by Timing. Competitors who take their IROC runs in the first run group will be allowed an extra run because they will be taking their FROC competition runs before their regular competition runs in their own car. We will try to minimize or eliminate the number of competitors who have to compete in the first run group depending on the number of entries. (see rule #1)
- Cool-down - The FROC car will rest for a minimum of 2 minutes between each run to prevent overheating and maintain a consistent level of performance. It is the competitor's responsibility to ensure that the car is adequately rested prior to their runs. (see rule #1)
- Final Shoot-Out - At the end of the day, any FROC Competitors with times within 0.5 seconds of the fastest FROC time will be eligible to compete in a one-run final shoot-out against the holder of the fastest time. If no FROC competitors meet this eligibility, the Shoot-Out will not be run. Shoot-Out run times will be included in determining the top three prize winners. (uh-huh)
- Prizes - Cash prizes will be awarded to the top 3 finishers. Final amounts determined by the number of entries. $2/entry for 1st, $1/entry for 2nd, and $0.50/entry for third. $4/entry for 1st, $2/entry for 2nd, and $1/entry for third.
