Radio Headsets and other event improvements

Postby wbeers690 » Wed Jul 06, 2011 8:47 am

the starter could use an ear piece to listen in on radio chat.. because being right next to some of those cars you really can't hear a thing over the radio. i recall a few times hearing " hold the start" but that starter can not hear it over the engine next to him.. everyone doesnt need it just yet but i feel the starter would REALLY benefit from this and keep everything smooth

YES, good idea. I am a little more "animated" than most when on starter duty, this would help a lot.

Good idea, and it has some advocates (Dave O has been trying to get us to order headsets for a while now), BUT... what's this got to do with the driver's meeting?

I'm trying to rewrite our driver's meeting notes here! This is not just a "general discussion". Thanks for your support.

sorry came to mind as we spoke about the cone issue and having to hold starts.. ill keep brainstorming for drivers meeting.. also let us take notes after the meeting for any questions asked and consider those as something to clear up next time.. kinda a continuing improvement

I don't really care for the headsets idea. We got them for SCCA and no one used them. I think most of the failure to hold starts have been because the starter was an idiot. Sorry to offend, but there is no reason you shouldn't be able to hear a radio. There are probably only 1 or 2 cars that are loud enough at idle to make a difference, and when those cars are at the line you just hold the radio closer to your ear. Personally, I won't wear a headset when it's 10000 degrees outside. Maybe I will on the one or two days when it is cold in Jan and Feb.

Sorry Loren for going off topic. :finger:

I was thinking of an earpiece and alcohol wipes. Don't the radios have a 1/8" jack already?

And, while you may be infinitely more skilled at EVERYTHING I sometimes do have difficulty hearing the radio. And, it seems to me that the one guy out there that really needs to hear clearly is the starter.
