Hey Elliott I'm the guy with the Red/Silver 90 Mustang GT that was talking to yopu for a while, for some reason I never got your name, I'm Brian, Hi.

Thanks again to you and your girlfriend for staying late and helping clean up. Hope to see you in Brooksville, we need more Mustangs out there. I think you'll like it a lot; much more room to open it up. What did you say the name of your Mustang club was again?

Hey Brian! My wife and I are planning on being at Brooksville - I'm pretty sure the Roush and Saleen will be there again too, a Cobra friend, and maybe some others from the Mustang club. The club is called The Stang Gang. You can find our forum/website here: http://thestanggang.com/vbportal/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Just a bunch of Stang owners that wanted a friendly, family oriented group to do events/gatherings with! Check it out!

I wrote:The police course is marked, mostly in green, it's just hard to find. I'll email SPC about it, but I am not optimistic. As was noted, there are numerous "code" colors and other lines on the pavement already. If we go marking over them, they may not be happy. But I'll find out.
SPC said that they are having some work done on the pad "this month" and that decisions will be made about how to remark it. I do now recall being told that they are planning to resurface it, and that it might be possible we could get a date cancelled. That's not a problem unless their project gets delayed until October. So I guess we'll just wait and see what they come up with.

Did anyone happen to catch any pics of the '03 Azure Blue Mustang Mach 1? If so, I would love to see them! vertigyn@hotmail.com

I'm looking forward to seeing some of ya'll again at Brooksville! The more open course should be fun!

i was takin pics but i was workin that group so i didnt think it would be a good idea to whip out my camera when i was suppose to be watchin for flyin cones lol. my dad had an blue 03 mach 1, awesome car! he didn't have it long enough for me to do any REAL driving, whats it like dodgin cones?

i thought the course was pretty fun. after studying the course map, walkin it a few times and one run through i got the feel of it pretty quickly, no DNFs for me!! oh and if i'm not at brookesville next month i'll be at the tail of the dragon!!

Thanks! I was actually very surprised at how well it did dodging cones. It handled better than I expected. Now I have an idea of what it can do on both the strip and in the curves, so I'm very happy with the car all around!

I had big issues with my car on this course. I have the original OEM worn tires and my gearing wasn't good for this course. I was getting heavy understeer, which I could have remedied for the most part by slowing down entering a corner, but then is would snap into heavy oversteer. On almost every corner I was faced with a 1st or 2nd gear selection. I stayed in sencond gear to reduce the time shifting, but that required me to come in fast to keep the boost up. This type of driving caused my understeer. If the course was a little more open or a little more tight, I don't think I would have had the problems. Of course a new set of tires and better suspension setup (which I should have soon !!!) would have helped with the understeer portion and would have allowed me to carry more speed through the corner. That way I could have stayed in second gear and kept boost up.. It was very frustrating when I slowed through a corner in second gear only to let the revs drop out of boost while the front end washed out when I had it at full lock..

Well, there's your problem. You should never be at full lock, if your car is understeering, you unwind the wheel, don't turn more. It feels weird at first, but you get used to it. The fastest people are going to have the smallest steering inputs.

+1 That's when my car struggled the most too - when at full lock. Rear end just wanted to push straight instead of following the front wheels - let it out some, then the rear got in line and swung around to where I wanted.

I understand that, but because my tires are crap and my need to stay in boost through the corner without having to shift to 1st, caused me to progressively turn full lock. Trust me, I know. It was a fight between gears, boost and tires.. I think if my tires were much stickier, I could have taken the corners with a little bit more speed. Therefore, I wouldn't have to shift and I would still be in boost (that means >2500 rpm). My rear end is a 4:11.1 and 1st gear is almost useless, hence my want to stay in 2nd or above..

Read up on left-foot braking. Might help your situation.

New tires help a lot.

I have that Red/Silver 90 Mustang GT, and at the SPC event before this one, I was understeer KING!! I couldn't get my car to turn at all, and it was really killing me because at Brooksville I didn't have to much of a problem. I bought a new set of cheap Faulken tires, and it made a HUGE difference at SPC. The only way I could get the car to understeer is when I went way to hot into a turn, but even then I was able to get out of it quickly. :D

Do I get any bonus points for having a huge orange mark on the underside of my downpipe?

Note to self: When you're in 1st gear flooring it and cannot seem to adjust the direction you're headed, do something other than continue flooring it.

You get bonus points for not having a white mark (from the timing lights) on your downpipe...you already have the award for stopping hearts in the timing trailer!
