This subject might need to be moved to another thread. Anyhow, I looked at the manifold on the genny, an those bolts haven't moved in 30 years. The biggest problem is to get those bolts removed without snapping them, so they need to be heated up, and pray they don't break inside the block, if they do it's new genny time. Then we need to use the existing manifold and cut it flush and weld a curved pipe onto that. A muffler shop could fab a header pipe really easily that could attached to a muffler. Then it's a pretty easy thing from there. My thought is that we need to have a exhaust muffler we can remove and install per event because it might be to cumbersome to move the genny in and out of the trailer. While a used muffler would work, I know we could get a new small engine muffler for around $30. I'm thinking if we can keep the budget under $60, we would have a much quieter genny. Then I'm thinking, yeah, when the genny runs out of gas it's pretty quiet, but that's when we broke for lunch. Once cars are running and idling on grid, I don't think it's even a issue. And we have plenty of extension cord to, so we could just move it farther away.

Yup, that's what I was talking about,

I know we could get a new small engine muffler for around $30

those mufflers really don't quiet down the engine much, but it's better than what we have now. We can go that way if you want.

As you mentioned, the old one is probably 30 years old. Just an new "standard" muffler would probably be quieter. A new "super lo-tone" muffler should be notably quieter.

It could probably use a oil change, just replaced the plug not long ago. I can order the muffler, and take the genny home with me from SPC next month.

Have a look at the fuel hose while you're at it. I don't remember if it was our generator or someone else's somewhere... but I remember a fuel hose giving up on a generator somewhere recently. If that sucker's old, go ahead and replace it.

The carb sits directly on top of the fuel tank, no fuel line. I fixed a fuel leak on the carb a year ago or so, one of the universal plugs was leaking, maybe that's what you were thinking.

What air compressor? 1800 watts should run over a 2HP motor if it can make it spin. 750watt/hp? I used to know this stuff. Damn....where are my car keys?

It is the start up and cycling that will need over 1,000 watts. Once it's running, not a problem, but the cycling will be an issue. Just electronics? Probably be fine.

We used to have a compressor. It very rarely got used and we got tired of loading and unloading it... I don't remember where it ended up.

For now, it's just timing equipment and PA.

Seven years ago in 2005 when I moved us to FL from the North country I was convinced that Hurricanes were a semi-monthly occurance from May to Oct. and I goeth forth to Pep Boys in CT and bought a 5000watt 120/220 generator in addition to my personal friend a 1979-80 Yamaha 1800 watt AC/DC 1800 watt Unit which is chrome and way cool. I reconditioned the cool looking blue Yamaha two years ago with new air filter, etc. It might have 40 hours on it in the last 33 years? Last time I ran it was 2 years ago. The PepBoys 5000watt generator has 1 hour on it and is a virgin. I think it's red but it's under it's personal cover? So I don't remember. It is cool.

Still waiting for the hurricane to end all hurricanes now that I "get" living in FL.

So the question is??? Do you need a 5000watt new generator or not? Since I'm kind of fond of my "antique" 1800 collectible Yamaha I'm leaning towards giving the modern Pepboys to a club that has provided a great deal of enjoyment to myself. If the 1800 will suffice it is very quiet and I know it would find a good home with FAST.

Could you maybe bring it to the next Brooksville event and let us give it a test run? The only possible downsides I can think of would be if it's a lot bigger than our trusty crusty Craftsman, a lot louder, or consumes a bunch more fuel. I don't expect it would have any of those issues.

I don't remember it being loud. Fuel is directly proportionate with load. 8 hours easy on a tank. Remember the truck driver test of being able to back out with a full load? Mario remembers. Mario still late turns on corners.

Thanks Ed. You're always welcome at Dougopolous. I'm a couple miles East of Rt 19 on Deltona Blvd in Spring Hill. We'll work it out when the time comes. Or I could even meet you at the airport and transport it in the Crown Vic. So long as it gets locked up overnite is all.
