Really enjoyed the day, even though my 'suck less' control was not working.. A couple off courses, several cones down, not a stellar day of driving for me, but the course was very fun. Thanks all.

Wow, I had no "idea"! Are you the "president" of the Royce Fanclub? If so, could you setup an "autograph" session so I can have the "opportunity" to shake the hand of this hero.

Can you be Mayor and a President at the same time? :dunno:

In the passed I have picked up bundles of 4 ft strips of drywall scraps that are cleanly cut from Lowe's, just pull them out of the trash in the lumber area. Just letting you know that might be easier than cutting the strips yourself.

After looking at the results, its amazing how much time I left out there by not having the balls to keep my foot in it. Oh well there's always next time.

Congrats to those who killed it, thanks to those who worked serious OT to make this happen, and see you all next month!

I think I finally recovered from two days of fun. Let's just say I'm glad I took Monday off work.

Thanks to all those who made this latest FAST event another great one. I liked the course a lot more in real life than I thought I would after seeing it on paper. Kudos to Doug and Matt and everyone else! (You know who you are.)

Agreed...great fun event. Always impressed at the efforts that go into planning such an event...like a well oiled machine. Says something about the volunteers and behind the scenes folks.

I'm guilty of downing Brooksville for the long runway limitation...always slaloms from end to end. But I always leave really enjoying the challenge they provide...the length of the course is also a real benefit compared to SPC-60 minute drive ends up worth it.

Less pleasant...I'm not a fan of the split format. I've noticed a trend toward less runs, the cost going up, no lunch, less opportunity to go for rides/learn from others during the down shift...and most of all, less time to hang with fellow enthusiasts. I realize only two events so far so adjustments will be made to smooth the process, but a loudspeaker telling us to leave (no offense Loren-it had to be done!) is a bit of a downer.

I've queried the club during down turns if the funds are sufficient to keep it going...now we seem to be expanding for no benefit other than more drivers. I would rather see two separate days during the month than have to rush around.

Or just leave it open to first come first served at sign up. FAST isn't a profit making deal...more of a social event-no drinking, just driving!

It certainly seems like a great idea and executed well...maybe in time it will be the way to go, but I'm not convinced.

I still had fun which is the BL ('bottom-line' for non military types). Thanks.

It's always been tough finding the balance that is "FAST", Tim. In the early days, I resisted going beyond 50-60 car events. And we eventually got to 70-75 car events and regularly filling them up and turning people away. And, dammit, we hate turning people away! Partly because we just like to expose new people to the sport, and helping them learn is fun. But also because if there's a limit and people are being left out, it's often some of our regulars who are being left out.

Consider the split event format still in an experimental stage. We don't know where it will end up just yet. Like everything, it has it's pro's and cons. And like every process, it will morph into what it needs to be.

Meanwhile... maybe some of you early-session folks should arrange a social gathering and have lunch somewhere after you run? There is a group of us that always gets together after an event and hangs out. (Beef O'Brady's for SPC, Hungry Harry's for Brooksville) Good times.

Push Harder - Drive as close to the limit of your tires as possible.
Suck Less - Drive something resembling a proper racing line.

What Loren said.

And I'll add that we will only chase folks out at Brooksville. SPC, and soon Tampa Bay Downs don't have the silly body count limits.

My GF took some pics from the timing trailer.

Keep in mind these were not taken by a professional or hobbyist...all of which were from the afternoon session.

Loren wrote:much of the course was acceleration (which is why I was really surprised that Jeremy didn't put the spank on me today), so as long as I didn't screw up, it "should" have been faster. (which would have put it in the 46-second range)
Jeremy is having technical difficulties with the videos so he sent them to me, they should be online later today. After side by side video review, we definitely should have been deep in the 46's.....

On our best runs it looks like:
He was flying everywhere but fubar'd the finish
I was slow everywhere but setup for the finish pretty good.

P.S. - Team 240 is in trouble if they can't win on the "power courses"

You guys were still quick but to be fair I did not think it was strictly a power course. If you maintained maximum momentum (say that three times fast) through the entry of the slow elements, which the smallest cars can do best, by setting up early enough you could really extend the acceleration zones for a big bonus. If you had lots of power.
I did not. I think my Camaro had a broken gas pedal or something.

Agreed, it just felt like I spent a fair bit more time @ WOT than most courses.

I was standing at the finish stopping people and watching their times the final heat so I could tell them how bad they did and give them eternal hope for one clean "clever" run.

I noticed virtually no one could get around that last cone and thru the lights under 3 seconds. It was a time/libido killer. So was the turn around on the far end. One could easily lose a second or two there also. I and one other person I spoke to lost that far angled gate in our A pillar and had to develop a weird method of trust fall to get thru there with any quickness and accuracy. It took me 4 runs to beat my first run time with a passenger and cold tires....geesh.

That Vivek tape loop left in my brain from the "Early" session: "I know I left 3/4 of a second out there haunted me all day." I wrote his time on a napkin and showed everyone what they had to beat and they couldn't do it either.

Wish those young bakery girls wouldn't have shown me their muffins too. That messes with one's blood sugar and cholesterol.

Doug your "wet dishrag handskake" upshifting technique was the key to my success.
Well except for the time I hit 5th gear anyway, in which case I might have been cursing your name...

But I digress. Some of my wasted time (way more than a second with no mistakes) was from being a bit tentative on the way out - I tapped my brakes 3 times to steady the car but it was unnecessary. The biggest mistake was at the wall before the run into the turnaround - I was downshifting to second before that wall and going full throttle all the way to the u-turn entry. I messed up the rev-match and locked 'em up on my fastest run so it was a big loss of momentum. The rest was pretty good - I was full throttle just before that last wall to the finish when I did it right. Well except for when I was chasing the red car ;)

Pics of said muffins or it didn't happen?
