For what it's worth.
I checked my tire temps against the RE71 last weekend.
My T1 Toyo's were exactly the same temp with my $14 laser temp checker. 129F one side 110 other side.

Everything is relative. Are you winning or not? Maintain norm.

Which car to bring to S1? Or S2?
Trick car? OR
Struggle with girlie tires on stock car?

Hmmmmm. Depends who shows up. Might have to kill M2 for fun? Annihilate S2?

M2 is always fun to kill and get a sticker....lol. S2 might get demoralized? S1 depends who shows up? Might run trick S2 car in S1? Options are cool. Might let Loren choose?

I haven't checked tire pressures since we had that one replacement tire mounted about 3 events back.

Who am I going to lose to, Doug? You wanna take some runs in the FASTiva and show me how it's done?

I am so up for doing that!! I haven't driven a FWD car in years/decades. NOT to say your car is normal  Guess we'll both show up next event and share rides then. You get to pick which car I bring to share and what class to beat up on. Be assured I will check tire pressures on the Fastiva just to mess with you.

Man, that's a tough call. Neither of your cars "suit" me. Both are fun, I just don't know how to drive them. I guess I haven't driven the RX-8 since you fixed the suspension, though. It's probably the better choice.

I've been wondering how Doug would do with FWD, haven't seen him driving an ecobox before, especially ones that have snap oversteer :rolling:

I haven't tried it, personally, but I've heard that the FASTiva will pirouette nicely if you chicken lift in a Chicago box.

I need opinions on whether a non contact tire pyrometer is sufficient to use for troubleshooting on the skid pad. Or is the type with the probe worth the extra $$.

I'll offer whichever I get for use on the 18th if I can get it before then.

With a skid pad, it's a good time to check tire pressure settings.
I read recently that street tires heat from the outside in, whereas race tires heat from the carcass out to the tread. The explanation was street tires have a stiffer carcass and it's the friction between tread and pavement that heats the tire. With race tires, the carcass is more flexible and it's the internal friction of the carcass that causes the tire to heat up. Might be pseudoscience, dunno.

I think it would be interesting to do back-to-back checks with a probing thermocouple and an IR thermometer. I would expect the actual temp readings to differ from one meter to the next, but I wonder how much the different sections of the tread will differ from each other from one thermometer to the other.

The oil was just changed and they always overfill at the Dealership.

RX8 and Fastiva it is on Father's Day Eve...woohoo.

Now to decide which classes we mess with :geek:

Dancing with the scars? I vaguely remember how to drive a fWD race car. At least this time I'll be able to reach 3rd gear, if needed, as Loren isn't much taller than me. Don't laugh the last fwd car I drove was an old Full Race Fiesta with a 6'-6" driver and a fixed seat. I couldn't barely reach 3rd gear....damn. Put it up on two wheels tho'. Frickin' scarey/fun. I can still have fun on two wheels even tho' the Suzuki is gone. Yep I beat the owner of the last fwd car. He spun out my turbo Conquest first tho' and insisted I drive his car  Never lift in a fwd.

We have a fixed seat in the FASTiva, but you won't need 3rd gear. There might have been ONE course somewhere that we used 3rd gear on... but, I'm not even sure about that. It takes a LOOOOONG time to get to the top of 2nd in that car!

Don't lift.

Or... do lift the week before the event. No power steering.

We will have fun for sure. Classic Event with no points affected so signed us up RX8 in M2 so you can totally mess with some people who think modification is necessary

I learned by accident if we really need to get fastest I can unplug the power steering and drive like the old days!!

Looking forward to the showdown, Doug. I'll make it easy on you. You don't have to beat me in the FASTiva. Just beat Steve. :whip:

Loren just so you're aware my buddy Patrick Crawford will be registering in his 2002 z06. He's done one event with me with corvette club, one with fast back in the day, and one up on Fernandinas airport by where he lives. I can vouch for him (whatever it's worth lol) that he won't be a liability or hold up the event.

Looking forward to it!

Nah, he meets the requiement of 3 events, not a problem. We always keep an eye on folks with less than 6 events, anyway.

It occurs to me. If Drew "The alleged alien" AND uncontested winner of M2 (cast out of M1) were to want to beat himself in M2 in two or more runs in an S2 car that would be fun to watch. Offer him an extra sandwich.

Just watching Joe Vance struggle in a Camry on AS tires is worth the price of admission. Then there's the relaxed atmosphere, zillion runs, great lunch, great friendly competition AND those Stickers that you can never seem to win on a Points event!! Ride alongs are common place with any of us regulars. Learn Drew's secrets. Learn Loren's secrets. Learn Doug's driving language issues. You saw the course map right??? It's awesome.
